Finished after eight hours.... This installation is part of Art'In Lima which opens this weekend.

Free entry for everyone! And it's in a white tasting room ...in case you get thirsty

Updated version of the previous image - installation of several hundred origami cranes as cyanotype images, finally done, in a wine tasting room with wooden beam ceiling and windows behind the hanging

I'm at the centre for interpretation of vinho verde in Ponte de Lima, Portugal. I'm installing several hundred origami cranes as cyanotype images (#metamorphogram) in the shape of a river - the river Lima, which is about 100m away.
This is just the beginning, so very much a #WIPWednesday post!

Inside a room with wooden beams on the ceiling, from which are hanging many blue and white paper diamonds, which are actually cyanotype pictures of origami cranes. The bottom border of the hanging has the same form as the river in this place, Ponte de Lima

@Marvin_Rouge thank you!

The version I am planning will hopefully have the same shape as the river that runs through the town where it will be shown - Ponte de Lima in northern Portuga.

l have about 600 images for this one...

A table, dark grey and slatted, seen from above, with a big pile of dark blue-gray origami cranes on top. About 200 of them.
At the bottom is a pile of images on white paper which are blue geometric shapes. Each is what the origami cranes will look like when open and developed. There are about 400 of them, though only the top one is clearly visible

I have been back making cyanotypes.

Each of of these cyanotypes is a literal memory (as defined by my first philosophy of memory publication!).

Artist life has been hard lately. No change there, really, but it helps to make things.

A piece of white paper which shows creases from being folded into an origami form - in this case a 'square dance kusudama' - and exposed as a cyanotype. This means it has blue geometric patterns all over it - a central diamond, two layers of diagonal lines around that, then a ring of blocks, and triangles at the cornersA piece of white paper which shows creases from being folded into an origami form - in this case a random crushed form focused on the centre - and exposed as a cyanotype. This means it has blue all over it with random white areas. Looks a bit like a white ice shard explosion on a blue backgroundA piece of white paper which shows creases from being folded into an origami form - in this case a 'crane / orizuru' - and exposed as a cyanotype. This means it has blue geometric patterns all over it - what part of the paper was the head of the crane is top left, wings top right, bottom left, and tail. In the centre is a blurred blue x shapeA piece of white paper which shows creases from being folded into an origami form - in this case a partially completed complex model of a sun - and exposed as a cyanotype. This means it has blue geometric patterns all over it - a central white diamond extends to the centre of all sides, the four large corners are mostly blue in odd triangles with white areas shaped like random stars

Making a sort of cyanotype that equates to memory let me treat each image as an individual.

I've used these ones (which were origami cranes) to explore how we can share our individual memories to create social and cultural structures.

Through shared experience, shared memory, we connect with others.

We can influence these shared memories.

They in turn influence our personal memories.

'Sociobiographic memory' perhaps.

'Cliques & Networks'

Some of my >750 orizuru images have been made into other works.

The main (dotty) picture is made from 81 individuals.

Experiences and memories make each of us unique (like orizuru).

We build connections with others through shared social, cultural and autobiographical memories.

We see the orizuru create local 'cliques' (dots) and extended 'networks' (lines), where their different memories interact.

Square, blue and white geometrically patterned image. It's actually a collage of 81 individual cyanotypes. Each individual used to be an origmi crane. The individual images are a sort of picture of that crane form. Put together, the 81 make a repeating but varied pattern of circles criss-crossed with lines of sharp triangular shapes.

Imagine a piece of tissue paper.

Coat it with cyanotype chemicals.

Fold it into an origami crane.

Let it be a crane for a while, in any place with a bit of light. Ignore it, play with it, whatever.

After a while, unfold it. Develop.

You'll get an image.

The image is the memory of it's experience as an origami crane.

Repeat. Every crane's experience - and hence every image - will be unique.

Here's 4 out of the >750 I've made so far.

Square image in shades of blue and white, showing a geometric pattern equivalent to the shapes produced in a square of paper after being folded into an origami crane and then opened. The folds define triangles, diamonds and other shapes. Some areas are dark blue, some white, some tones of blue. In each one, the shapes are the same, but the blue and white is different.Square image in shades of blue and white, showing a geometric pattern equivalent to the shapes produced in a square of paper after being folded into an origami crane and then opened.
