Edit: there have been nights with 1000+ bikes parked and not one ever got stolen.

That short bike connection opened in 2023 from the canal to the Mackenzie makes all the difference to get to into downtown or to Quebec safely. Every time I use it Iâm amazed how such a short stretch makes such a difference.

In my mid twenties I was finishing an MA and when I was too tired to keep writing I'd take a bike break. Leaving from Center town Ottawa, I'd bike down the river bikepath to the water fountain by the Island Park bridge. Disappointed that progress has turned that water fountain into... This is so stupid: The NCC has released more details on the design for the Alexandra Bridge replacement. VĂ©lo Canada Bikes is doing a big push this week(ish) to have volunteers do an in-person count of various locations in certain cities, to provide usage data to support advocacy efforts for better active transportation infrastructure.
I'm headed out for a 2 hour counting shift on a section of trail right near our house! I'm excited, and happy the air quality is gonna be fine and the weather looks great.

Running some errands after work today meant starting bike month with 27km instead of my usual 12. Also meant trying out a lot of new routes. There are some great lanes for biking throughout the city, but I still find it tough sometimes when going on a new route to find something safe. #ottbike #biketooter
