If you're using #p7zip on your #Linux boxes, it's a fork that hasn't been updated since 2016.

Relatedly, it's time to ask some questions like why the author of upstream 7-Zip doesn't believe in source control and doesn't release matching source code for binaries, too.

Can #7z / #p7zip finally please implement STDOUT functionality for all options for which it makes sense, please?

I shouldn't need to use the filesystem (or a tmpfs) to extract a binary array from an archive.

@witti Klar gibt es etliche Systeme ohne dieses Init-System. Insofern ist das auch nur eine Teststellung und ich habe als Nutzer insofern gestern den "Test" explizit nicht bestanden. Gefällt mir aber dennoch gut: Ich hätte nur ganz gerne bei der Installation eines neuen Kernels gleichermaßen das zugehörige "Besteck" wie bei #Hyperbola auch mit "mkinitcpio".

Denn das war meine Fehlerstellung. Auf der Hardware selbst war zuvor #Devuan. :) Allerdings sind die Pakete bei #SalixOS dennoch "neuer".

Für einen Router mit Lede / OpenWRT brauche ich die Firmware für ein DSL-Modem mit Annex-B! Und die Version des Paketes #p7zip ist unter #Devuan so dermaßen alt gewesen, dass ich nicht einmal das Image des Herstellers entpacken konnte während unter #SalixOS / #Slackware das die leichteste Übung war - nebst dem Tatbestand einmal beide Welten für NVidia auszuprobieren, proprietär und frei.

Further apropos upgrading: Upgrade 7zip to 18.00 beta or later (when that becomes available): It fixes CVE-2018-5996 and CVE-2017-17969, neither of which is mentioned in the release notes.
