@vfrmedia

Encourage and facilitate development in #EV #charging infrastructure to point its as easy to find and transparently priced as #petrol and #diesel

Price caps on EV charging points on motorways would help here. These are amazingly useful at the very high speeds: plug in the car, pop in for a quick biology break. But they're also 4x or more the cost of charging elsewhere. 2x would make EVs noticeably cheaper to drive long distances than petrol or diesel, but at the current motorway service station prices they're about the same and less convenient.

Invest in training and education of #mechanics (both for conventional and EV cars) and #electricians where private sector is lacking

Strengthening right-to-repair laws would also help: make sure that local mechanics can service these things without paying huge amounts.

If #GreenParty #UK wants to succeed, they need to reformulate #transport policy to offer more #carrots instead of sticks..

* Keep same timescale for bans of *new* #petrol and #diesel cars as rest of EU

* Encourage and facilitate development in #EV #charging infrastructure to point its as easy to find and transparently priced as #petrol and #diesel

* Invest in training and education of #mechanics (both for conventional and EV cars) and #electricians where private sector is lacking

And only *after* they have got power start advocating such things as full bans of #petrol / #diesel cars and #scrappage schemes - reality is many suburban motorists are going #electric anyway without having to push too hard, and 20 year old cars are often unrepairable due to lack of spare parts..

Explosion proof #telephone from #Plessey #England you would have used it if you were in the yard filling up 200 litre drums with #petrol or any other substance where there was #flammable #vapour or #gas - a normal telephone set would not be safe as it could make sparks (especially during loop disconnect dialling).

Now #local #elections are back on in my region, the #GreenParty really needs to step up its campaigning to avoid #Reform or worse fash parties gaining a further foothold.

Its not going to be easy as #Suffolk and #Essex are some of the most car-dependent parts of #England - Greens really need to fight back hard against paranoia and conspiracy theories levelled against them and reassure #motorists they are not going to force everyone out of their #cars if they still drive #petrol and #diesel vehicles and pick more realistic timescales for phaseout of these.

As much as I dislike "leaving things to the market", the reality is spare parts for older cars (15-20+ years) are getting hard to find anyway unless popular with enthusiasts, whilst EV's are steadily rising in popularity..

Femi Otedola backs Dangote: Naira to trade below ₦1,000/$1 soon

Story Highlights

Billionaire Femi Otedola announced on February 13, 2026, that the Dangote Refinery’s 650,000 barrels-per-day capacity will crash the dollar rate. He predicts the naira will strengthen significantly and trade below ₦1,000 per dollar by year-end as domestic petrol production ends expensive fuel imports and saves foreign exchange.

Femi Otedola has sparked fresh hope for the Nigerian economy through a bold currency prediction. The business mogul linked the future strength of the naira directly to the success of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

His optimism follows the refinery reaching its full production capacity. Many Nigerians have long awaited this milestone to ease the persistent cost-of-living crisis across the country.

Otedola hails refinery milestone

The billionaire chairman congratulated Aliko Dangote for hitting the 650,000 barrels-per-day target. He noted that supplying 75 million litres of petrol daily completely changes the energy story of the nation.

”I congratulate my friend and brother, @AlikoDangote, on the remarkable achievement of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery reaching its full 650,000 barrels per day capacity.” Femi Otedola wrote.

This achievement marks a major shift after decades of Nigeria relying on imported refined products. Otedola believes this move will finally stop the heavy drain on the country’s foreign reserves.

”More importantly, it is transformational for Nigeria and Africa. Supplying up to 75 million litres of PMS daily changes our energy narrative and conserving foreign exchangez” the businessman noted.

Naira recovery and future expansion

The reduction in forex demand for fuel imports is expected to stabilise the local currency. Otedola remains confident that the naira will regain its value against the US dollar very quickly.

”With domestic refining now firmly underway after decades of reliance on imports, pressure on the foreign exchange market should ease significantly. I am optimistic that the naira will strengthen meaningfully, and trading below ₦1,000/$1 before year-end is increasingly within reach.” Otedola declared.

The refinery project has faced various hurdles, including reports that Dangote cleared shrines at the site to ensure the massive construction could proceed. These efforts now seem to be paying off for the industrialist and the nation.

Beyond fuel, Dangote is already investing $12 billion more to boost capacity to 1.4 million barrels daily. This expansion includes facilities for detergent production and polypropylene.

”Aliko is not stopping here. He has embarked on an additional $12 billion expansion to increase refining capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day, alongside 2.4 million tons of polypropylene and 400,000 metric tons of Linear Alkyl Benzene for detergent production. Work has already commenced in earnest.” the billionaire added.

This public show of support reflects the close bond between the two tycoons. It mirrors the warmth seen when Otedola praised daughter DJ Cuppy after receiving a luxury gift from his daughter recently.

”Congratulations once again, my brother. Nigeria is proud of you 🏭 🙌🏾… F.Ote $” he wrote.

Summarising in a few words would be helpful.
Someone called Petrol offering "the truth" about EV problems doesn't instantly suggest a good reference or source to me.

I drive an ID.3 BEV. I like it a lot. I use it a little differently from my previous petrol A Classes. I liked them as well. Mercedes integrated the telephone better. I can live with that.

PFAS contamination sites and dead platypus
Mapping "hazardous concentrations" of PFAS plumes on NSW waterways

A study "found alarmingly high levels of PFOS in the livers of eight dead platypuses, collected from waterways across NSW."

"…Due to the shape of the valley, groundwater from beneath the landfill "ultimately flows towards the Ourimbah Creek catchment”.

"When you look at some of the research that's coming through, clearly it's raw water, our waterways, that we also need to be concerned about because we know PFAS gets into wildlife."

"The research that I've seen, not just in platypus, but in some other species, is really frightening. If that isn't enough to get the government to act on looking at PFAS in waterways, not just drinking water, then I don't know what is."
