@atpfm It isn't clear to me from episode 560 John's workflow for scanning photos. I’m not a scanning pro but have learned a few things.

John made it sound like he scanned multiple photos and then sliced up the image but I might have gotten that wrong Just in case, suggestions.

Even macOS’ built in software allows you to select each photo separately and scan each one as a separate file. Better scanning software allows you to set scan settings separately for each photo. 1/3

Trying to post this pic scanned at 600 dpi didn't work. Mb too high for server space?

Long gone Millie, scanned at 600 dpi for the digital collection, not accepted on this Mastodon instance. But rescanned at 300 dpi and accepted as you can see. I'll edit this and post up the neg version as a side-by- side when I find it!

This is amounting to a scanner's diary.

Scanning family negs. with a flatbed is a slow process.

The first discovery a few days ago was that colour negs and positives fade.

Today, after another batch of poor colour negs, suddenly recollected the prints were so much better. A trial scan of one print shows v. old colour negs will be a waste of time.

Should've scanned all available prints then checked against negs. A mighty org. task either way.

Great help. But I bought the Plustek 8200i and though it does the trick, one slide at a time with a push through, it is fiddly variously and if you don't know what you are doing with #Silverfast you're in a muddle.

Done 100 of negatives and positives OK but now it has decided to give me geometric shapes not images and I can't get myself out of this because I don't know what I'm doing.

Have taken on board the lower resolution bit of the video!
