#phthalate, ubiquitous additive to make plastic more flexible and durable, found in food packaging, personal care products and children's toys:
"this study found that a level of exposure within the range detected in human serum and urine, alters gene expression linking increased germline oxidative stress with compromised genomic integrity and errors in meiotic chromosome segregation."

#Phthalate sorgen dafür, dass Kunststoffe elastisch werden. Manche Phthalate können aber auch gesundheitsschädliche Wirkungen haben. Deshalb ist ihr Einsatz inzwischen streng reguliert.

Wenn Weichmacher entweichen. Sie machen eigentlich harte und spröde Kunststoffe elastisch und flexibel. Mit Hilfe von Phthalaten lassen sich Materialien verarbeiten. Sie werden in vielen Produkten eingesetzt, wie Textilien, Spielzeug, Deckel von Schraubgläsern sowie Farben, Klebstoffe und Lösungsmittel.

Manche Phthalate können im Körper gesundheitliche Schäden anrichten, wenn sie in zu großen Mengen aufgenommen werden. Inzwischen ist ihre Verwendung in Verbraucherprodukten verboten oder streng reglementiert. Die Arbeit für das BfR in Sachen Phthalate ist aber längst nicht vorbei.

In zahlreichen Urinproben ist überraschend eine Substanz aufgetaucht, vermutlich das Abbauprodukt eines verbotenen Weichmachers.
