Pedology (Pedology 🟤)

Pedology is a discipline within soil science which focuses on understanding and characterizing soil formation, evolution, and the theoretical frameworks for modeling soil bodies, often in the context of the natural environment. Pedology is often seen as one of two main branches of soil inquiry, the other being edaphology which is traditionally more agronomically oriented and focuses on ho...

Meteorology (Meteorology ⛈️)

Meteorology is a branch of the atmospheric sciences with a major focus on weather forecasting. The study of meteorology dates back millennia, though significant progress in meteorology did not begin until the 18th century. The 19th century saw modest progress in the field after weather observation networks were formed across broad regions. Prior attempt...

Palaeogeography (Paleogeography 🦕)

Palaeogeography is the study of historical geography, generally physical landscapes. Palaeogeography can also include the study of human or cultural environments. When the focus is specifically on landforms, the term paleogeomorphology is sometimes used instead. Paleomagnetism, paleobiogeography, and tectonic history are among its main tools. Map Of Russia Scaled by Population In Every 'State'

--

I saw this 'map' of scaled (sic) by population in evet 'state', and as I am ½ way through reading Tim Marshall's book 'Prisoners Of Geography' I was especially drawn to this view, especially remembering how he described the context of Russia's various physiography features (e.g., the Urals) in terms of regional and national politics, history of warfare, population growth, etc

(unfortunately @maps.n.more seems to no longer be on Twitter to do a H/T)

map - russia if areas of 'states' were scaled to be proportional to their population sizegraphic - book cover - Prisoners Of Geography
