in 2006 i was invited to a show at MISS HECKER (a wonderful place run by @yoichiosaki & florian glässel in alteschönhauser berlin). i had filled the room with dry leaves and was sewing animals and costumes for my friends who were performing on the street. it was my first time being part of the PICTOPLASMA FESTIVAL. since then i got great support and was featured more than ones! i was always impressed when friends of mine gave talks at the conference, expecting that i would probably never dare to speak in front of an audience myself. after all the years of support from PICTOPLASMA, i felt obliged to say yes when i was asked this year. i definitely prefer to speak in pictures, but it was an enriching experience to be challenged. MANY THANKS to lars, peter, amarantta, booky, sarah, anna, liza, pierre & the whole @pictoplasma team!

the presentation for the pictoplasma conference was divided into 3 parts: painting and the theoretical background of the content (radical constructivism, escapism, audiovisual synesthesia, antrophocene) working in collectives as well as collaborations and the denial of the artist ego (spring collective, beetobee collective, off-space hinterconti, interdisciplinary collaborations with other artists working in different media as the musican lambert or the author rae mariz). as a conclusion i talked about my approach of storytelling in images. my hassle with the medium graphic novel, the renunciation of language and classic comic panels, the breaking up of established structures in favor of picture puzzles or loop comics.

Black and white ASCII art piece, there are six illustrations of funny characters divided into two rows, the top row says "Late 1990's character design" while the lower one says "Early 2010's character design". In the top row characters look more geometrical and simple, akin to a triangle and a rectangle, while in the lower one they have much more details resembling fuzzy hairs and feathers. Used typeface for the textmode art is Sligoil, a monsopace typeface with deep inktraps that looks a bit like a typewriter typeface.

Es war, wie ich fand, ein anregendes und produktives Gespräch darüber, was der Boom von KI-Bildgenerierungstools wie Midjourney, Dall-E und Stable Diffusion für kreativ Arbeitende bedeutet – weder unkritisch noch alarmistisch, und letztlich sogar ein wenig hoffnungsvoll.
