Good news from the Fediverse:

Just turned out that events sent from PieFed work very well with Hubzilla's event calendar. Including converting the time zone from EST to CET. Guess they'll play along with Friendica, (streams) and Forte as well.

That is, I hope I'll get some feedback whether Hubzilla's interactions with PieFed events work on PieFed.

If Piefed continues to implement features without considering the ActivityPub protocol and other platforms, much as Mastodon has been criticized for, it will damage the very interoperability that makes the fediverse valuable.

I've seen the raw HTML for some #piefed post content showing in the spoilerText field on some platforms via the mastodon api, including #gotosocial, #neodb (takahe/incarnator) and I think #pleroma. My current kludge is to check the spoilerText for html tags (specifically, a beginning <p>).

I submit, the #fediverse needs to #pirate better if we want to have a chance at taking down the #CorporateSocialMedia behemoths. For example, the following is a video originally posted to the site that shall not be named.

It's an American woman describing that she works full time SAVING LIVES at $32 an hour. After taxes and insurance, she brings home $3,200 a MONTH. Rent, utilities, and childcare consume $2,800 — before food, gas, or basics. This isn’t the cost of living — it’s a slow financial chokehold.

There are still people on #CSM who feel trapped by switching costs, but still post vitally important content. We need to build that content into #mastodon #lemmy #piefed #peertube etc.

I ripped it using this free tool: twittervideodownloader.com/en/
Please, my friends and fellow travelers ... go forth and #rip

My 1st use of the "Event" option in #Piefed, for #KungFuSat #WatchParty

Might start using this from now on when posting about watch parties (instead of "Link" or "Image"). As well as a post in the community timeline, it adds the event to the sidebar & even creates an iCal feed.

1 issue: event time displayed as GMT with offset (in my case, -6) for local time. I wish it displayed local time & UTC.

Timeline shows an "Event" posting, and the event is also shown in the community sidebar

@Kari'boka The categories are not about how well something works together. They're only about how something is perceived by the majority of the Fediverse, i.e. Mastodon.

The second category means that Mastodon users perceive it as something that was explicitly created as a third-party add-on to Mastodon, like an extra feature that was bolted onto Mastodon.

Like, Pixelfed is seen as a Mastodon add-on that adds Instagram functionality to Mastodon. PeerTube is seen as a Mastodon add-on that adds YouTube functionality to Mastodon.

This is why so many Mastodon users try to log into Pixelfed with their Mastodon accounts: They actually think that Pixelfed is a Mastodon add-on, just like Friendica, Hubzilla and the like do actually have add-ons, just not off-site, but on the same server.

Basically, the next step after seeing the Fediverse as only Mastodon is seeing the Fediverse as Mastodon with extra stuff bolted on.

I cannot see PieFed being perceived as a Mastodon add-on that was created as a Mastodon add-on to add Reddit functionality to Mastodon.

In fact, it cannot be seen as a Mastodon add-on because, by its features and functionality, it can replace Mastodon. Technically speaking, it's a direct competitor of Mastodon, and Mastodon's competitors cannot rank higher than 3rd class. I mean, why would someone build a Mastodon add-on that can also do the same stuff as Mastodon?

Besides, if it ranked higher than third class, it'd be as well-known as Pixelfed and PeerTube, when in reality, it isn't even as well-known as Lemmy which is third-class, too.

If it was more well-known, Mastodon users wouldn't sit and wait for "the Fediverse" (= Mastodon) to introduce groups. Rather, it'd be common knowledge that PieFed has groups. PieFed would be seen as the drop-in replacement for a.gup.pe, and everyone on Mastodon would agree that FediGroups is a dirty kluge.

Rather, it isn't even common knowledge that Friendica has groups, and it isn't common knowledge either that Friendica is federated with Mastodon. I speak from personal experience here.
