Hallo meine lieben Lebensformen,
Heute haben wir Flötenregenpfeifer gesucht und sogar mit ihren Babys gefunden. (Keine Sorge, die wurden nicht gestört). Es war sehr windig und die Kleinen hatten mit dem Sandsturm zu kämpfen.

Die Eltern haben es schon schwer gehabt. Für die Küken war es teilweise ein große Anstrengung.

Der brütenden Vogel brütet eingezäunt, so kann nix passieren.

Tiere sind Freunde und kein Essen oder eine Plage.
Bleibt gesund, glücklich und verliebt. 
Der schlimmste Seelenschmerz ist das Fernweh.

Hello my dear life forms,

Today we looked for piping plovers and even found them with their babies. (Don't worry, they weren't disturbed). It was very windy and the little ones had to struggle with the sandstorm.

The parents already had a hard time but for the chicks it was a great effort at times.

The breeding bird broods in a fenced enclosure, so nothing can happen.

Animals are friends, not food or a nuisance.
Stay healthy, happy and in love. 
The most terrible pain in the soul is wanderlust.

Day 25 of #streamink2024 asks what inspires us, and I wish I could give you a meaningful answer for me, but actually I’m just really inspired to paint birds lately because I just think they’re neat. This sweet friend is a piping plover, a little shore bird that hangs out not far from where I lived in Canada.

One of the Great Lakes Piping Plovers that has called the Montrose Beach Dunes Natural Area home since hatching there in 2021 has returned to the area for a third season, the Chicago Park District confirmed.

A #PipingPlover and its chick at Maumee Bay State Park in #Ohio back in 2021. The pair had picked the beach at the park for a nesting site. This caused the concession stand to be closed for most of the summer, but also brought in a lot of birders from the looks of things.

The excessive #exploitation by humans means horseshoe crabs now are listed as “Moderately Depleted” on the IUCN’s #RedList. Migratory birds who rely on horseshoe crab eggs, including the #RedKnot and #PipingPlover, also are disappearing at alarming rates.

Meanwhile, synthetic #alternatives — which don’t involve a single drop of horseshoe crab blood — have been approved and are in use by several major pharmaceutical companies.

Very serious cuteness. This is a piping plover mother, facing to the left in the sand, with her two chicks sleeping between her feet. Her back, wings, and the top of her head are light brown, while her breast, neck, and underparts are white. She has a darker brown "collar," orange legs, and her medium-short beak is half orange, half black. Her chicks are mostly colored the same way, with the exception of their beaks, which have not developed the orange coloration yet.

Four more plover eggs hatch at the point. The adult carries each of the shells from the nest, and drops one in the calm water where it bobs offshore like a delicate vessel. Four more little creatures dry in the sun.
