Yesterday I saw my first #polarlights in Hyytiälä during my Winterschool for #AC3
Was a very nice view, would do again!
A Week Under the Stars
In October, I attended our annual star party in Zwischenbergen/Wiesmoor, where amateur astronomers from across Germany gathered to share their passion for the night sky. This year, we were fortunate to enjoy clear skies on several

Got them 👀!
There was nothing at midnight. But a full display across the sky from 1:30 a.m.
The camera enhances the colours - but the fields were very prominent to the naked eye as well, spread across large portions of the sky. It is always fascinating how the polar lights constantly change shape and intensity. They evolve and mutate.
Not a common occurrence here at lat 52N, in #Brandenburg west of #Berlin. The glow's of excited oxygen.
Retreats at remote places come with some benefits: Our #IMPRS_students, currently gathered in Fintel, Lower Saxony, went out #stargazing 🌠 last night and were able to see the currently visible #polarlights over Northern Germany. Our director Bjorn Stevens was able to capture the moment with this beautiful shot! #Polarlichter #auroraborealis #MPIM #PhD
