My absolute favorite reading for Summer Solstice rituals is Orphic Hymn 7: To the Sun. Thomas Taylor's translation might not be perfectly accurate word for word, but his poetic license captures the grandiose feeling of a hymn perfectly. Read it like you're holding a skull on a theatre stage.

"Hear golden Titan, whose eternal eye with broad survey, illumines all the sky.
Self-born, unwearied in diffusing light, and to all eyes the mirrour of delight:
Lord of the seasons, with thy fiery car and leaping coursers, beaming light from far:
With thy right hand the source of morning light, and with thy left the father of the night.

Agile and vig'rous, venerable Sun, fiery and bright around the heav'ns you run.
Foe to the wicked, but the good man's guide, o'er all his steps propitious you preside:
With various founding, golden lyre, 'tis mine to fill the world with harmony divine.

Father of ages, guide of prosp'rous deeds, the world's commander, borne by lucid steeds,
Immortal Jove, all-searching, bearing light, source of existence, pure and fiery bright
Bearer of fruit, almighty lord of years, agil and warm, whom ev'ry pow'r reveres.

Great eye of Nature and the starry skies, doom'd with immortal flames to set and rise
Dispensing justice, lover of the stream, the world's great despot, and o'er all supreme.
Faithful defender, and the eye of right, of steeds the ruler, and of life the light:
With founding whip four fiery steeds you guide, when in the car of day you glorious ride.
Propitious on these mystic labours shine, and bless thy suppliants with a life divine."

Since this is Pride month, I'll also take the opportunity to remind you that I'm a queer author and artist.

Goddess looking away
In three directions you watch
Guarding the pathways leading to you
Keeping a light on the pathways leading away

Bearing torches that light the ways
Bearing keys that open the gates
Bearing the serpent of chthonic prophecy
Bearing the blade of holy sacrifice

Goddess in dark days
When the moon is at its darkest
And the stars shine brightly
The light you bring grants hope

Goddess accompanied by many
The saddened dead who follow you
The dogs that bark lively in the night
Along the path to the world below

Goddess at the boundaries of life
Passing forth between the dead and living
Passing from day to night
Passing through the threshold while protecting it

Bearing torches of divine flame
Bearing the keys to heart and home
Bearing the serpents as on Medusa’s head
Bearing the blade of sacred protection

Hecate Trioditis guide me!
Hecate Ennodia guard my choices!
Hecate Chthonia grant me a good life!
Hecate Soteira guard me from myself!

I want to start a cult (aka worship) of coyotes. Coyotes are tricksters and I highly value tricksters and hence coyotes. Tricksters challenge and undermine authority and the status quo. They are liberators. Coyotes are highly admirable for this reason. Also if I wasn't clear enough I mean cult in the sense of worship. Like the Cult of Minerva.

I wish psilocybin mushrooms were legal. I want to incorporate them into my religious practices. They will help me enter the spirit world, shapeshift, etc. It's a violation of freedom of religion to have them banned.

I also plan on entering the spirit world and shapeshifting into a coyote with my coyote guardian spirit. With my coyote pelt draped over me of course.

I still need to offer my blood to Mother Earth. To thank her for allowing me to garden/farm this year and to show my thanks for the wonderful growth so far. I give blood offerings to her because my Mother Earth eats our bodies when we die. I feed her as a show of thanks for what she does. I pierce my ear, catch the blood in a cup, and pour it on her.

I sing today of she who stands with the warrior

Alexandros, who protects men engaged in war that they may succeed

Oplosmia, who bears a shield and sword to defend her favored people

Prodromia, who runs headlong into battle beside her favored nation
Tropaia, who grants victory to those who call upon her aid

But I sing not of grey-eyed Athena, daughter of Zeus

I sing of Hera, Queen on a throne on high
Glorious Goddess of the cities
Glorious guide of heroes
Wife of sublime Zeus
Great and heavenly queen of all gods and men

I think this is a very positive step forward for ADF. I was a member for many years, but stopped sending in dues when I got the impression that a lot of the leadership didn't understand what it is like being a solitary practitioner in a thinly-populated state in which religious minorities can often lead difficult lives. My dedicant program coursework was 90% completed.

You weave eternally a complex tapestry of space and time
The shuttle, like time, passing through the warp of space
With each passing making changes to the whole
Where it has passed there is history
Where it has not just pure potential

Blessed Fates
Goddess of time and destiny
Recording forever that which has been
While forever you look forward to that which may yet be
Not deciding what comes, but seeing it as it does

You who are theree
You who are one
You who bear a power higher than even Gods
For in your hands is our memory
In your hands our lives

From that moment when Khaos brought forth Night and Darkness
To that day when all that is becomes Khaos again
You will weave the holy tapestry of fate
Like a book records the history of man
So do you record the history of all creation

Holy Fates
Goddess of cosmic history
Blessed Clotho
Who at the dawn of time spun a thread from the chaos
With nimble hands laying threads upon the loom
Forming the weft and the warp
Where the threads of fate will be woven

Blessed Lachesis
Who measured the threads of space and time
And then the threads of history
That they may make a glorious tale
Told in the colors and textures of life

Blessed Atropos
Who cut the threads exactingly and without fault
To the shuttles attached and set down
That Fate itself might weave to and fro
Recording all of time forever

Goddess Fate
You who are one made three
You who are three made one
Who like a woven cloth is more than the threads that make it
Behold us and record us that we may not be forgotten in heaven or earth

I'm really enjoying this book. It's an anthology edited by Tess Dawson - not just articles but also artwork, prayers, rituals, and even recipes (I can't wait to try some of them) honoring deities from the Near East including Asherah, Inanna, Ba'al, Attis, Kybele, among many others. Very inspirational!

As a writer, I'm a small business doing my best to promote my work in a crowded marketplace.

My next book is now available for pre-order. I'm so excited to be a part of the Moon Books Pantheons series! Mine is the fourth book in the series, with more great titles coming soon. Release date: 26 August 2025 - oh gosh it's getting close!

After wading through lots of terrible "source? I made it up" books, I found one that seems cool. It's called "Drawing Down the Sun: Rekindle the Magic of the Solar Goddesses." In our culture we tend to see the sun as masculine and the moon as feminine, but this isn't universal. In the West, it's a relatively modern concept from Victorian times.

"A few attempts were made to change the gender of the sun; the Shinto goddess Amaterasu is the best example. In 750 CE a monk attempting to merge aspects of Buddhism with Shinto beliefs claimed to have received a divine revelation in which it was revealed to him that although the sun goddess Amaterasu appeared female, she was in fact male, and an aspect of the Buddha. In the thirteenth century another attempt was also made to masculinize Amaterasu. Her name was changed to Ameno-minaka-nushi, the Heavenly Central Lord, a male deity of creation rather than a female one. Both these attempts failed, but the simple fact that they were made in the first place shows the resignation felt toward the sun as a female source of creativity and power."

I had never heard of this before. Granted, most of my Amaterasu knowledge comes from the game Okami...

I still don't entirely understand solarpunk but I'm going to put this in the tag because it feels fitting!

I have a set with 5 decoratively patterned small glasses which I use for beverage offerings. As it happens I am also a devotee of five deities (or more specifically, four deities and a folk saint).
I recently thought, "Well, sorry, other deities out there, I cannot devote myself to another one of you, I only have five glasses for offerings." 😅

I've been wanting to write this mini-essay for a while - thinking about working with Selûne (yes, the one from D&D) in a real-life Pagan practice.

This is probably part one of a series, I guess, since there's lots more to get into.

I am looking for good, informative, historically/culturally accurate books about goddesses. Using that term loosely to include angels, bodhisattvas, etc. I am also interested in Gnostic takes on figures like Eve and Mary Magdalene. I'm not a "believer" but I love myths and stories and the women in them!

I like books that talk about how the deities were/are worshipped in their cultures, how that changed over time, etc. I don't like books that are like, "Lilith and Inanna and Venus are all basically the same thing!" Unfortunately I keep running into that, so if anyone has any reading recommendations, I'm all ears.

"Guided Meditation to Communicate with Your Deity"

I used to have this as a video in my YouTube channel, but I am no longer active on Youtube and have deleted all of my videos and playlists there.
Down below is a link to a blog with the written version of the meditation. Feel free to record it for yourself and play it, or let someone read it to you.

The meditation is suitable for any deity. You can use it if you have already established a connection to a deity, but also if you are still in the process of doing this.

The druid John Beckett writes: "We are Pagans because this path calls to us. We need to continue to follow the call of the Gods and the yearnings of our souls, whether it’s trendy or not, whether it’s popular or not, whether it’s politically expedient or not."

#FridayPaganPoll, Hail Freya it's Friday!

Paganism is usually described as collection of polytheistic traditions, but I've met people will all kinds of different beliefs here in the Pagan community, and there are different kinds of theisms.

Which one closest describes your beliefs regarding deity?

(I can't add an image to a poll post, but I will reply with a handy graphic for clarity.)
