The proliferation of specialized tiny robots and drones for specific functions is creating swarm-based solutions to complex problems across industries, from agriculture to infrastructure maintenance to healthcare. Imagine a series of automated drones checking utility infrastructure for faultsβ€”that is the new world we are building right now.

Let's call it "The Dawn of the Swarm". I could see some dramatic Star Wars-style theme music going with it!

What's it all about? Tiny robots and drones operating in coordinated swarms, creating intelligent solutions to complex problems across sectors:

Agriculture: Precision farming and crop monitoring

Healthcare: Targeted drug delivery and medical logistics

Infrastructure: Autonomous inspection and maintenance

The idea is inspired by the collective behavior of social insects and birds. Known as "swarm intelligence", it provides the foundational algorithm for decentralized coordination and insight. Each autonomous agent (a drone or robot) operates based on local information and simple rules, but together, these systems become complex, intelligent group behavior, and coordinated insight emerges as they work together.

A lot of this trend comes from the power of miniaturization. Researchers and engineers are pushing the boundaries of what's possible, developing increasingly smaller yet more capable autonomous systems

The proliferation of micro-autonomous systems is not just a technological trend; it is the dawn of a new era of intelligent, distributed, and swarm-based solutions that will reshape our world in the years to come.

I had a blast at #programmable this week. I'm exhausted but really pleased with how my talk was received. It is a more challenging, darker talk than I usually do, but important because it is emblematic of what is happening right now. Here are some random pics of the week!

Does any body know of any way to program this robot with #platformio ? This is an old programmable toy from 2009? 2013? By #Roboni #Robonii I can find the Windows (modified) version of the Arduino IDE, it has a #ATXMEGA processor but I'm not sure which one. I do have an old windows machine setup to use it, but ideally I would like to use my linux machines.

Robonii Robot from maybe 2009 or 2013, a programmable via Arduino IDE toy robot. Which may have played "soccer", or keep away. It had a controller, but the interesting part is it's ability to be programmed.

Here is another picture together with the which has in the meantime. I only had to clean the . Otherwise, it was in perfect condition. It should also be one of the biggest LEGO parts.

Instead of C(LR14) I used AA(LR6) , which ideally have the same length. I just had to make for them, which I also made out of LEGO. lol

I have this programmable mechanical mini keyboard. The name that kinda works for finding them is Sayo (β€œsayo keyboard”, β€œsayo device”, etc.). Mine has 16 keys and 4 layers that you can switch to or hold as a Shift. TIL that I only need a browser with WebHID support (caniuse.com/?search=webhid) and can even config it on Linux. Very cool!

You can change buttons on the mouse itself, it doesn't even have a program for that. But it seems you can only choose from a limited list of options (copy, paste, print screen, Win button, F5, volume up/down, stuff like that), no custom shortcuts. Also not sure if you can switch between Bluetooth and dongle on the fly, or if it would forget the pairing. Tempted to get it just to mess around, not an expensive one.
