2. Wait for a cue

I am in an English-language online lecture delivered by several people who really need to be educated on the existence of 'they' as a gender-neutral pronoun.

There is so much 'he or she'-ing going on. Apart from erasing #nonbinary people (suggesting that a coworker or a CEO can only be male or female), it is an extremely clumsy way of referring to more than one gender ('When he or she needs help from his or her manager' – cut it out already and just say 'they').

There are so many languages that do not have a gender-neutral #pronoun that is used outside the queer community. So whenever you use one of the languages that have such a pronoun, you should really make use of it.

In #ASL, to indicate someone in third person, you pretty much point. Some people use mouth shapes like English pronouns if they have been taught or enculturated that way. But it works out so perfectly when overlapping with #pronoun use in English. This perfect explainer was made for primary school kids.

Doing some late night annotating of data, and one difficulty with interpreting the subject #pronoun "on" in #French is that 1pl (i.e., "we") and 3sg impersonal (i.e., "one") have very similar distributions and are almost always equally coherent semantically. You can switch between them in most cases with almost no change at all in the sentence's interpretation.
