How many watts can a trace handle? Intern Sam at our #fablab at @waag put it to the test. Design in #Kicad, prototypes on a small cnc milling machine (Modela mdx20). 0.25 mm tapered balnose milling bit. PCB FR1 copper clad (phenolic paper) with a copper thickness of 35µm.

I am glad I never used nor recommended glitch dot com as it is now shutting down. It sure felt like a great project, but I am sick of the dependencies we feed when using those kinds of startup’s tools. Make your own tools or use free [software] ones.

Упрощение прототипирования и верификации RTL с помощью Python

Всем привет! Хочу поделиться своим опытом использования Python на этапах прототипирования RTL-модулей и последующей верификации. Как RTL-инженер, я часто создаю модели на Python для быстрой проверки логики и алгоритмов будущего RTL. Это подход уменьшает вероятность последующих правок в логике RTL в случае если алгоритм не подходит. Однако при переходе к тестированию на SystemVerilog всегда возникала проблема с переиспользованием написанной Python модели устройства: нужно было писать обвязку на C и использовать DPI-C интерфейсы, чтобы интегрировать Python-код модели в верификационную среду. Это занимало время и было неудобно. Недавно я открыл для себя библиотеку PyStim (Bind Python & SystemVerilog), которая кардинально упростила процесс. PyStim позволяет напрямую вызывать Python-методы и работать с Python-объектами из среды SystemVerilog без необходимости писать обвязку на C или использовать DPI-C . Это значительно снизило трудозатраты и ускорило адаптацию уже готового Python-кода в тестбенче.

And what do you think could it be possible to even print pcbs with more than just a surface layer using them by e.g. applying some insulating varnish or something? Maybe by using screen printing techniques even?

I designed a #SMD adapter board using @kicad and let @aislerhq manufacture them. They are for #SOT23 on one side and #SOT363 on the other side. They bridge the gap of a #solderless #breadboard, so they are perfect for #prototyping circuits or trying out new components - or as replacement for through-hole parts. I soldered a dual diode #BAV70 on one and a dual NPN/PNP transistor #BC847BPN on a second one to try them out. I'm satisfied how they look, although the white area for labeling is a bit small - I need a thinner pen for that.

the delivered boards, they came in panels of 20 each. You can see both sides, one of the individual boards has been broken out of the panel and lies above them with SOT23 side up, the panel beneath has SOT363 side up. the next panel below has SOT23 up, but is only partially visible at the top.
