most likely they simply counted the amount of times contactless terminals were used - it's easy and gives a big picture considering that, from my experience, majority of passengers use them to travel.

... but there are still old-fashioned people who buy tickets from the ticket machines, incl. day passes 👀

no trains running between those stations due to several power outages after this arvos storm.
even the light rail that I caught earlier is now out of commission due to then not charging...
no replacement buses, as seems the norm these days, to get from Parramatta to Penrith via 3 buses is estimated at 3 hrs...
