EDIT: Update below.

The discourse around the #wikipedia taking #AI money reminds me of @adapalmer 's beforewegoblog.com/purity-and- and the discourse around #purity .

I'm not interested in the aesthetics of #solarpunk , but how to make most with the limited tools.

If the Wikipedia is getting scraped by the bots - losing money, limiting access to its resources - or allows the AI companies in and GAINS money to share more free, human-created knowledge, I'll take the latter.

I don't need to be pure.

@Lizzie I know, and I did it once with #Franzen's #Purity (which had the worst depictions of female characters I had ever read) but it feels weird with anything that doesn't meet the "truly awful" bar. But you are right. Ugh, why is this difficult!?

Quote of the day, 10 January: Céline Martin

At the beginning of her journey to Rome, [Thérèse] entrusted her purity to Saint Joseph, and nothing ever disturbed it, despite all that we encountered in museums and elsewhere. She once told me that as a child she had been ashamed of her body (cf. Last Conversations), and that the one thing that consoled her in having one was knowing that Jesus Himself had chosen to take a body like ours.

From Carmel, she wrote me many letters praising the beautiful virtue of purity. She often spoke of the “white lily,” which symbolized virginity, and contrasted its spotless beauty with the “yellow lily” (cf. Letters, LT 57), which in our everyday language represented marriage.

When all my sisters had entered religious life, and I remained alone in the world with our father, she showed a deeply maternal concern for my soul and suffered greatly, knowing that I now faced dangers she herself had never known. At that time, simple social expectations required me to take part, at least occasionally, in the life of the world around me.

She was always worried about me, but especially one day when she learned that I was expected to attend an evening gathering where there would be dancing. She later told me that she wept as she had never wept before, and asked that I be called to the parlor so she could speak to me and give her advice.

When I thought she was overreacting—after all, it didn’t seem realistic to refuse every social expectation—she became indignant and said to me firmly: “You, the spouse of Jesus (I had made a vow of chastity), do you really wish to compromise with the world by giving yourself over to dangerous pleasures?” (cf. Conseils et Souvenirs).

I was stunned and conquered [by her reasoning]. I resolved to follow her advice and remained faithful to it, though it cost me many sacrifices.

The Servant of God cherished holy purity so deeply that at her clothing, when she was given a reliquary to wear from that day forward, she chose only relics of virgins, setting aside all others—even relics of saints she loved dearly. She herself pointed this out to me as she showed me her reliquary. She also confided to me one day that she had never experienced temptations against chastity.

Geneviève of St. Teresa, o.c.d. (Céline Martin)

Ordinary Process, Response to the twenty-first question

Note: On 10 January 1889, St. Thérèse was clothed in the holy habit of Carmel. Concerning that day, she wrote: “The wait had been long, but what a beautiful celebration it was! Nothing was missing, not even the snow!”

Mrs Hudson came up to announce a visitor. Ah, said Holmes, that will be Mr Keenbear.

Keenbear was a stout man of indefinite age, his hair unwieldy, his jacket worn thin at the elbows. He brought with him a large beige metal box, in the shape of Holmes's ancient IBM Luggable when closed up. On Holmes's nod, he put the box on the dining table and opened it. Indeed, it was an IBM PS/2 P70. Keenbear took out the keyboard and angled the plasma screen. Holmes had plugged in the AC adaptor and the ethernet cable. Booting was slow, we watched in silence. The screen glowed in the familiar orange.

As you had instructed, Sir, Keenbear said. A bespoke Plan 9 port, the ed standard editor, a dedicated gopher client. Nothing else. You are hooked straight into the SupremeText network. Safe as hell, ..., sorry, Sir, forgive my language. I trust this machine will meet your requirements.

Holmes's face shone in excitement. Finally, he whispered to himself. The real thing.

Quote of the day, 5 January: Brother Jean Thierry Ebogo

I know what you are thinking, Mama, but I can assure you that I am preserving my purity. I prayed to Jesus to give me the gift of chastity, and I have no doubt that I will be heard. I want to be a priest, and I want to remain pure until the priesthood.

Servant of God Brother Jean Thierry of the Child Jesus and of the Passion Ebogo

4 February 1982, Cameroon – 5 January 2006, Italy

Note: Born in Cameroon in 1982, Servant of God Brother Jean Thierry of the Child Jesus and of the Passion entered the Discalced Carmelites in Cameroon in 2003, but his formation was soon marked by severe illness. Diagnosed with a malignant bone tumor that led to the amputation of his right leg, he bore suffering with remarkable serenity and charity, encouraging others and abandoning himself wholly to the divine will. In 2005, he was brought to Italy for treatment, where a recurrence of cancer spread throughout his body. With special permission from Rome, he professed his solemn vows in his hospital room in Legnano on December 8, 2005, in the presence of his mother. Drawn to him were many—youth, religious, priests, and the sick—whom he consoled while quietly concealing his own pain. After receiving the Eucharist, he died peacefully on January 5, 2006; his final words, spoken while gazing at an image of divine mercy, were a simple exclamation of love: “How beautiful Jesus is.”

About industry made cake.
The chocolate coating appears to her like the saliva of the manager

im trained to look at it as an extra for the customer but the truth is what does it add to my pleasure?

Nothing, all it does is forcing me to admire the craftsmanship of the designer.

Our reality is in so many cases filled with stuff that doesn't add to my experience but we only accept because we still think it's a sign of progress.

When will we ever learn to distinguish?

Buyer aware. eBay seller claims it's legal to say "We only sell gold chains" and "it's solid yellow gold". I asked, they're stamped *1/20 14k* so that's 0.7k or 2.92% gold(!)
This seller knows it's over 97% other metals, but says he can tell his buyers the pieces will track the price of gold... LOL
He says they're not plated, so what alloys are they using? Confirmed they're nickel, lead free.
