This is the only thing blocking me from moving entirely to Linux. Cortex Control works fine in Bottles, but the pedalboard is not recognized as USB device in Linux. I was going to order a new Quad Cortex anyway, and then out of the blue, Neural DSP released the Quad Cortex mini. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Very excited to get started with this one.
#NeuralDSP have got a lot right with the new #QuadCortex mini, but I have questions about the durability.
Like #BOSS did with their GT-1000 and GT-1000Core, the QCmini has the same internal hardware as the full QC, so there's no compromise on power.
However, the QCmini still costs more than twice the Core and uses more than twice the power.
This is good for the #guitar #bass #effects #fx #pedalboard #MI industry, and will push the competition that much harder.

Downloading captures from Cortex Cloud is a real “I know Kung Fu" moment.
I’ve started using a Template when starting a new #QuadCortex preset. It has my standard setup - distortion and amps on the top two rows then mods, delays, cabs and reverbs on rows 3 and 4. Row 3 after the split is meant for a power amp plus real cab, and row 4 will have cab sims/IRs on it and go straight into a desk or FRFR.
Saves a bit of time doing the plumbing.
New amp day! Specifically, new Orange Pedal Baby 100 power amp. This thing rips - hooked up to a Barefaced Reformer 112 cab with a 65W Celestion speaker.
Driven by amp sims on the quad cortex.
Will be fun to back-to-back with the Fender FR12 and find the strengths and weaknesses of each!
(Also quick reminder I’m selling its predecessor - the small-and-mighty-but-not-quite-mighty-enough-for-my-needs Hotone Loudster - on eBay, I’ll pin the post where I advertised it to my profile).
TIL that the quad cortex lets you assign almost anything to scenes - including splitters! I'd been laboriously assigning individual devices to scenes.
Much quicker to set a splitter to A/B, and then set one path to "off" in scene A, and the other in scene B.
Then, you can just drop devices on the appropriate rows.
I think you probably need to be a bit more careful with CPU usage monitoring with this approach but it's particularly good if you're just playing with ideas.
