Just went to the book talk for this book and two points stuck with me:
1. We should see trans and gnc people as guides to self-creation,
2. We can and should be trying to tell stories with communities as the protagonist - by weaving and echoing many voices.
(Also their novel Cantoras, about lesbians during the Uruguayan dictatorship, was hot and tender and inspiring - go read it!) #trans #queer #queerbooks

Iron Widow (Iron Widow #1) by Xiran Jay Zhao

This slaps. I thought I knew where this story was going once Zetian got herself assigned as a concubine-pilot. Then she comes out of the gate swinging and finishes her revenge murder. The rest of the book is the “what now?” as Zetian lives when she expects to be executed and is trying to free herself from the system, while uncovering what’s really going on.
