In many ways, the LGBTQIA+ community has been lulled into a false sense of security about our rights. We fought, we won, many of us returned to normal lives, and we didn’t give much thought to maintaining these rights.

Hi! I'm Keenan (he/they) #introduction. I live in Appalachian #Maryland and work remotely for Harvard Medical School where I make digital courses for clinical and translational researchers and their teams. I love working in #education and my office's aim to ultimately improve public health has been meaningful to me since watching the early and ongoing impacts of covid on my family, friends, and community.

🏳️⚧️ For #ThrowbackThursday we are bringing #TransHistory to the forefront with NOTCHES’ own Kit Heyam’s 2022 work, “Before We Were Trans.” which explores a global, deeply layered history of gender beyond binary, Western ideas— instead spotlighting fluid, transgressive identities from Renaissance Venice to Edo Japan.

Invisible Histories is looking for participants for their Queer History Teach-In. They are US-based.
“Invisible Histories is seeking LGBTQ+ storytellers, memory workers, and community archivists to participate in our virtual Queer History Teach In on Sunday, June 8th, 2025. For this event, Invisible Histories invites speakers to share a 10-15 story about LGBTQ+ history. These stories can be about local LGBTQ+ figures, community groups and orgs, protests, businesses, art and culture--and so much more! This day of collective storytelling and remembrance is one of our favorite Pride events we host. Although you do not have to be a Southerner to apply, we give preference to stories and presenters from Deep South and Appalachian states!”

Following two illuminating articles on nightclub Taboo and iconic doorman Marc Vaultier, today we bring you a new post: “Would You Let Yourself In?” Reflections on Marc Vaultier’s Mirror by Stephen Brogan.
Read it here: https://wp.me/p6JJ6S-4Ni
In the article, Brogan examines the apocryphal story of Vaultier holding up a mirror to unfashionable club-goers upon entry and asking them “Would you let yourself in?” before turning them away.

The recorded #queer #history in #Canada begins after the European colonization. From the mid-17th Century until 2025, Canada’s progress on 2SLGBTQ+ rights begins slowly, then accelerates, with several bumps in the road along the way.

Though the building was largely destroyed in the closing days of World War II, literature from the period solidifies the hotel’s importance to the city’s identity and culture as a modern, up-and-coming metropolis to rival Paris in style, luxury, and debauchery.

Happy Easter to all who celebrate! 🌱
No cute lambs or bunnies in my files, I'm afraid. I do, however, have a *lot* of queer chickens. This is Hector, a 'hen-cock' pictured in the Sporting Magazine in March 1833 and mentioned by Charles Darwin in his 1868 book The Variation of Animals and Plants under Domestication!
