BODY, SEXUALITY, ORIENTATION, FICTION
A body does not imply a sexuality. Or even just "sexuality" (which, in sexual beings, is a postulate and not a biological reality anyone can point to). All a body implies is a body.
But aren't all bodies sexual?
Not necessarily. Neither are they necessarily sexually reproductive since asexually reproductive species exist (in abundance, actually) demonstrating that nature does not require sex to reproduce itself.
This also suggests that non-reproductive sex is entirely legitimate in nature since sex isn't even required to reproduce as well as the fact that there have been observed cases of asexually reproductive beings taking part in apparently sexual behaviour of no worth in simply reproductive terms.
The picture, in general, is thus one of an observed diversity of behaviours and outcomes in which no concept of a fixed "sexuality" makes sense. (Bruce Bagemihl describes this as "biological exuberance".) Much easier to suggest that living beings that have sexual behaviours can have, or develop, sexual preferences and forget "orientations" (fixed and hardwired existences) entirely.
Unfortunately, however, in the 1860s assimilationist gay rights advocates decided that "homosexuality" was a fixed, biological reality in an attempt to gain acceptance in society (which, of course, they should always have). This created the notion of a sexual "orientation" or sexual identity generally for if you invent the homosexual then you must also invent the heterosexual too at the same time. At that point people simply acquired a sexuality overnight - although this had not been a general belief before such times. Now, over one hundred and fifty years later, people will (sometimes angrily) insist that they "identify" with or as a sexuality when sexual orientation is an entirely invented concept.
It all shows, if nothing else, that how and what you believe creates the sexual reality you imagine to exist within - and affects your behaviour (including your feelings) accordingly.
