The check register in Quicken 6.0 for DOS. And please don’t judge me, but I still use Quicken today.

Remember we do not necessarily need the latest (often bloated) update of #software (#apps) that worked when we bought it. I'm running a 2011 version of #Quicken with no problems because Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (#GAAP) have not changed since then and essentially all it does is add and subtract.
Using an old version of Quicken (2017) & the backup file got corrupted.
Was trying to figure out how to restore it w/i success until I looked into buying a new version of Quicken which I just discovered is only available by monthly subscription.
WTF??? 😡
Then I downloaded a free checking program & was about to install it when I somehow stumbled onto the way to restore the Quicken backup & use it again.🤗
So, the status quo is maintained & I don't need to f*ck with any software changes for now. ☺️

Really bums me out that I bought #Quicken once in the early 2000's (for about $100 I think) and used it FOR OVER A DECADE. I miss the days when you could just purchase software once and then use it forever.
Then at some point in the mid teens, they stopped supporting the version I had (or it just stopped working with newer operating systems) and now it's a forced subscription service where I have to pay $60 - $75 every year & the price keeps GOING UP! 😡

"That software won me over big time. I used it for over 20 years to help manage my finances and there’s no doubt it was a critical tool in my toolbelt toward reaching financial independence."

I signed up #quicken #quickbooks as it supports HMRC’s payroll and VAT gateways. The payroll part never worked. So I ended up using HMRC’s free basic tools.
VAT worked but at £35 a month - just to submit my VAT return - when there are other services that charge that PER YEAR!!
I don’t need all the time tracking and invoicing shit. I want the basics to work first. Then I might consider the rest.
Cancelled it all just now and a feel a weight has been released from shoulders - all the menus and pops up and upselling shit is now no more. I used to get stressed just logging in. Should have acted on the when I first used it.
Now that my copy of #Quicken is able to authenticate with Citibank again, time for me to restore all the privacy settings and extensions in my web browser.
Geez, #Quicken is F-ed up this weekend.
So, I've moved on from #Quicken to #Fidelity OneView, but this Sequence product that shows your money as a flow looks pretty cool. $9/month for the cheapest plan is a little steep. I'll try for one month and decide.

Quicken is a useful tool, but it is important to keep your records reconciled or up to date, so what is the easiest way to do that? Spoiler alert, don't ask ChatGPT

Pulled an accidental all-nighter, due to Fighting The Good Fight. Then grabbed a few hours kip in bed from 0830 - 1400. Consequently, today... There Shall Be Coffee!
Fwiw, here, FtGF took the form of foolishly embarking on the exceedingly unwise project, after ~13 years using #KMyMoney [which itself came to be after a decade or so of #Quicken], of exporting all its accounts as a series of #QIF files, then attempting to import them all into #GnuCash. What could possibly go wrong?
Plenty! 😱

Video: Budgeting Tools and Apps
To get out of debt, save for a specific goal, or just want to feel in control of your finances, there’s a #budgeting app to help you succeed. I look at #PocketSmith, #YNAB, and #MonarchMoney to replace #Mint. I offer #Quicken and #Excel as low-tech alternatives for a #budget #app. The #CanadianMoneyTalk channel concentrates on #Canadianinvesting and #personalfinance in Canada.
