What are you up to tonight fellow ?

Me I've picked up an old patchwork quilt I've started back in 2023 and I'm listening to the good old "Donjon de Naheulbeuk".

What a creative, inspiring initiative!

At a time when Nepal has gone through a period of political upheaval and violence, this team of women who work with Kokroma has taken the scraps from their baby clothes making company and turned them into beautiful quilts!

This article explains how these seamstresses started from never having made a quilt to designing and producing the beautiful pieces that you can see here!
Edited to add an image.

Excited to see this show!

β€œStarting June 8, Bay Area audiences will have the opportunity to encounter a sweeping cross-section of this collection in Routed West: Twentieth-Century African American Quilts in California β€” the first time in the collection’s history that it has been the subject of a museum survey at this scale….

To oversee this process, BAMPFA hired Dr. Elaine Yau, an art historian working at the intersection of folk and modern art.…

As the curator of Routed West, Yau chose to focus the first museum survey of the collection on the topic of migration β€” a theme that is deeply woven into the story of these quilts. Yau’s initial research revealed that many of the quiltmakers in the collection had arrived on the West Coast during the Second Great Migration, roughly 1940 to 1970, when millions of African Americans emigrated from the southern United States.”

Where the layout of my "Exploded Quilt" ended up. The show Colorama opens tomorrow, but I still have more work to do. I have several more pieces in the show, one a quilt from 2009, another the large stencil spray paint painting (2020) in the lower right. #quiltmaking #art

This is an image of an art installation featuring a collection of colorful quilt-like textile works arranged in a grid on a wall. Each piece incorporates various patterns, textures, and designs, including text elements and geometric motifs. Surrounding the artwork, the space includes additional decorative items, such as a red woven textile, a patterned hat, plants, and sculptures on shelves. There is also a painting with abstract shapes leaning against a shelf, adding to the diverse artistic display.

Elliot decided to nest in the middle of the quilt blocks I've been working on today. #quiltmaking #processphotos #dog #chihuahua

A light brown dog sleeping on a couch covered in colorful quilt blocks. Each block features vibrant patterns, including strips of text, abstract shapes, and multicolored fabrics arranged in a square or rectangular layout. The quilts appear to be handmade with intricate designs, creating a visually rich and textured backdrop for the resting dog. In the background, part of a bookshelf and other furniture items are visible.

A quick rough layout of how Quilt #1 might fit together using an InDesign layout from overnight with the background fabrics. It would require making 4 new blocks predominated by the background fabric, each with a small center block. Really want to work on this right now. #quiltmaking #processphoto

This image shows a collection of vibrant quilt blocks, each featuring intricate patterns and varied themes. The designs integrate elements of patchwork and printed text, with vivid colors and abstract imagery. The blocks rest on a quilted background patterned with textured imagery resembling natural elements. A bookshelf in the background holds a variety of books.

I am playing in InDesign with possible layouts for my maximalist quilt project. I am thinking that rather than cramming all of the quilt blocks into one big quilt that I take them 5 at a time into nine-patch arrangements. #quiltmaking #processphotos #collage #designmethodology

A first crack at what a layout *might* look like. I need 2 more blocks. The blocks are not to scale. And there will be some spacing between them. (Also each one will lose a quarter inch around each edge as a seam allowance.) #quiltmaking #processphotos
