The second #Threads #DVD includes some articles and letters from the #RadioTimes about the #film.

In #1984, the Radio Times was the in-house listings magazine for the #BBC. Its covers were generally designed to be inoffensive to old ladies. The image of a traffic warden with a bloodied and bandaged face carrying a rifle was something of a departure.

According to one of the mini-docs (also on disc 2), this shocking cover image was to warn viewers what to expect if they watched the programme.

Unpleasant coverage

Please couldn’t we always have something pleasant or cheerful on the RADIO TIMES cover? After all, it stays around the sitting-room for a week, and one doesn’t want a week’s reminder of ugly things.
