@squaremoon I never found #NextDoor very useful (no more so that my the neighborhood feature on my #Ring app) but I stopped using it when #NextDoor cancelled by account because I was using an alias.

The same thing happened over a decade ago when #Facebook refused to allow me to continue to use their app unless I used my #realname

I value my privacy too much. So, I don't use my real name anywhere publicly on the #Net. Never have & never will.

Anyone who does is just asking for their identity to be stolen. 🤷‍♂️

So, I don't use NextDoor or FaceBook anymore & I don't miss them. 😎

BTW: Because of the #FB incident, I also boycott ALL other #Meta apps & products & I don't miss them either, mostly because I never used them to begin with. 🤗

I sent an email to #UTEC telling them how awful their new interface is and how I find their #smartlock to be a horrible data stealing device now that they changed the app and force people to login. I used one of my disposable emails:

Disposable email: blah blah blah fix your shit blah blah.

They replied with:

Dear #realname blah blah still works using the buttons like it's from 1965 blah blah.

That put me in a relatively angry mood. Where did they steal my actual name data from?

If all online interactions+browsing had to be logged/recorded under your real name, how would it alter your/others use of the internet?

Movie and music industry demonized #torrent technology so that public would subconciously associate it with #piracy but that will not be the case with Artificial "Intelligence" - even though training is usually done on stolen data, the mentioned industry has intent to steal rights to celebrities faces and voices. So don't worry - highly paid lawyers won't trash #AI as a technology in public, but instead echo venture capitalists' blabbering about "groundbreaking innovation". A very similar process could be viable for my #mastodon, following something like https://drwho.virtadpt.net/archive/2018-08-20/interfacing-huginn-with-mastodon/ but I want to keep my mastodon distinct from my twitter, for good reason.

This is as close to being open on the internet as a #realname can get: talking shop in a casual manner.
