Well, that's what Ai has to say about this one. 😁 Here's my story:

I'm not growing roses anymore ... their natural enemies proved too much for little me. The weather, the positioning (no morning sun), the black spot, the cane borers, and not to forget our "domesticated" deer population (which was considerable), all conspired to bring an end to my rose growing days. But while I had them, one of my favorite times was in autumn when the flowers were still in bloom, but when an early morning frost came to lightly kiss each sweet petal and leaf. This image, digitally hand painted in Rebelle with their magnificent watercolor brushes, is done in memory of those days. I took the photo that this started with from a lovely bouquet of flowers given to me on the birthday of our son.The rest is memory and magic!

Rebelle, 2025. I did this as a study of water for a community art show. The reference is my own photo from a visit to the Itsukushima temple in Japan, 2009, and this is the third attempt I have made at recreating it since. Going for a looser approach in Rebelle helped a lot.
