"4th-Q US #GDP🚨up just 1.4%, badly missing estimate; #inflation🚨firms at 3%.

The core PCE, which excludes food & energy, rose 3% in Dec, up 0.2 percentage point from Nov. That matched the consensus forecast but kept the pivotal inflation measure well above the Fed’s 2% target.

On a headline basis, the PCE index accelerated 2.9%, or 0.1%point higher than expected.

Walmart stock now pricier than Big Tech by cash flow metrics. Smart money knows: when the AI bubble bursts and the recession hits, people stop buying software and start fighting for discounted food. The ultimate bear signal.

Recession red flags are flying all over the place if you know where to look.

Latest jobs numbers show that with the exception of the Health Care field (which added 82,000 jobs) the data is showing job contraction.

New listings for roles in professional and business services have fallen to their lowest level in more than a decade (excluding the deepest pandemic-era lows of 2020) the steepest declines of any sector. qz.com/white-collar-jobs-reces #Recession #Jobs #JobsData #Hiring #WhiteCollar #Economy #WageGrowth

Interesting article: "Japan Is What Late-Stage Capitalist Decline Looks Like"

oceandrops.substack.com/p/japa

The article argues that the economic stagnation and cultural and social issues observed in Japan over the last decades are not unique anomalies, but rather a preview of the structural precarity now emerging in other late-stage capitalist nations like the US.

Which reminds me of this other study: cambridge.org/core/journals/ja

By 2028 it will be undeniable. The 2026 elections will flip the House, lawsuits and accusations will calcify into distrust, and the spending spree will come due. The AI boom will stall, data centers will empty, and recession will touch nearly every American while gridlock blocks bailout. Then, from the surplus — liquidated chips and cheap machines — open source will surge, breathing new life as people rebuild from the scraps of the crash.

Authored by Cavallo & two colleagues, it finds that “#US #consumers were bearing roughly 43% of the tariff-induced border cost after 7 months, with the remainder absorbed mostly by US firms.” Cavallo said by email that import prices hadn’t fallen much, “which suggests foreign exporters did not reduce their pre-tariff prices enough to shoulder a large share of the burden.″
