You had your Thanksgiving, and now you have a big pile of #turkey #leftovers. That means it's ben-Hadad Day.

"Wait," you wonder, "who is ben-Hadad?"

And well may you ask. I have studied this question deeply.

You see, a lot of you doubtless know the dish turkey — or chicken — á la king. You may know it as blanquette of turkey. If you have UK background you may know it as smothered turkey. But it's all the same dish. Pieces of previously roasted fowl-of-opportunity in a white sauce lightly seasoned with white pepper and possibly a pinch of ground cloves. Tasty, right?

But what is its
#origin? What is the ur-recipe from which all of these spring?

I went seeking an answer to this question, and eventually, through the magic of the Internet, I found one. I can now confidently report that the original, foundational
#recipe from which all of these three spring is turkey (or chicken) ben-Hadad.

How do I know this?

Because in all of the written accounts of humanity's past, the Old Testament story of King ben-Hadad is the only recorded instance of a king who was smothered with a blanket.
