Very interesting and recognizable blog by @cwts researchers Judit Varga and Wolfgang Kaltenbrunner (both mastodonless?) about the practice of evaluating narrative CV's:

Lots of positive developments at @universiteitleiden in the area of #OpenScience and #RecognitionAndRewards. Take a look at the first edition of our #AcademiaInMotion newsletter mailings.universiteitleiden.nl.

As you can see in the newsletter, at #LUMC we even award cakes ('preprint taart') to researchers that publish their work as a #preprint!

Preprints deserve cake!

@alastairdunning This is indeed very excellent and celebration worthy. Utrecht University is far from perfect, but I am very proud of the forerunner role UU has taken in Recognition and Rewards.

Are you a #researcher or #datamanagement expert working in a 🇳🇱 Faculty of #SocialSciences? And do you have ideas about how we can better align #PublicationPackages with the #FAIRprinciples & nat'l #OpenScience / #RecognitionAndRewards agendas? Then please join our #participatory #infrastructuring workshop (1.8) at the National Open Science Festival (31 Aug in R'dam)! #Quali and #ethnography folks are especially welcome 😎

In the first part of the workshop, we aim to establish a preliminary overview of how Publication Packages are being implemented in different Faculties; what workflows, tooling, and metadata formats are being used in their creation and archiving; and what limitations or obstacles those assembling PPs encounter in the process. During the second part, through a mix of breakouts and group discussion, participants will be asked to ‘draw together’ (Botero et al., 2019) their visions for a web-based Publication Package infrastructure, including a catalog of information it could contain/expose; a set of epistemological and sociotechnical requirements supporting the sharing of this information; as well as envisioned use-cases where this information could be (re)used to further enrich FSW research and/or facilitate meaningful connections with fellow researchers and other societal actors (Leonelli, 2023). The outputs of this inaugural workshop will be used to inform a series of subsequent workshops in Autumn 2023, ultimately culminating in a funding proposal to build such a community-designed Publication Package infrastructure. The creation of this resource will help to better align the PP requirement with the ideals of Open Science and the FAIR Data Principles, while also contributing to the national Recognition & Reward agenda by bringing greater visibility to the efforts that FSW researchers are investing in responsible data management practices.

My favourite presentation of #MetaScience2023 so far is the one by @lizziegadd on 'Can #ResearchAssessment reform 'fix' journals?'

i had a great day at the #recognitionandrewards festival in utrecht today -- nice to see some familiar faces, and to meet a few new folks as well. many interesting discussions about recognizing supporting roles in dutch higher ed, and the prospects of including engagements with open science in academic assessment practices. /1

A few weeks ago I participated in the NWO Vici webinar, where we presented the changes in the Vici funding scheme: the new two tiered assessment system, the abolishment of interviews for SSH and Science, the updated CV format and the adjusted assessment criteria.

And reading through e-zine reminded me to sign up for the workshops on Recognition and Rewards organized by Utrecht University this spring. Should be interesting...

Beautiful illustrations of dilemmas in Recognition And Rewards in the e-magazine just released. Illustration by Mark van Huystee; our #ScienceIllustration colleagues also need #RecognitionAndRewards (and credit ;) ) recognitionrewards.nl/e-magazi

Illustration titled "Various career paths"; subtitle Reducing pressure (e.g. writing proposals is not mandatory). Drawing of people standing on a disc with text "qualities" with research, leadership, patient care, impact and education underneath. Three arrows pointing toward frontier academic, different path-ways, and replicate horizontal development. At frontier academic there is text box with "you will always be supported by a team and will never reach this stage alone".

Feeling very seen after reading this paper on #Interdisciplinarity and those who "do" interdisciplinarity (or perhaps better said, facilitate interdisciplinary work). What kind of role is this in #academia ? And is it recognized enough? (Spoiler alert: probably not ;) )

With all of the interdisciplinary work needed- and being propagated as important- this looks like a good place for #RecognitionAndRewards ... @boselie
