When Stags Find Their Voice

I travelled to Kerry this morning to photograph the rutting in Killarney National Park there. There weren’t many stags to be seen but this fellow was lying in the middle of a field I suspected would have a stag or two. After a few moments he stood up, digging his antlers in the grass and tossed his head from side to side with grass flying everywhere.

Despite the dramatic behaviour, he looked over at the human photographers again and lay down, chewing some grass and ignored us once more.

Een hinde en haar kalf moesten niets van de burlende lawaaimaker hebben. Na wat dralen in het struikgewas aan de rand van het veld, staken ze ineens in volle vaart over. Het hert had het nakijken 😄.

Catching up with a bunch of photos from recent-ish walks...

A trip up the Bealach na Bà was both fun and frustrating. Despite the sign at the bottom we got caught behind a timid and inexperienced driver pootling up it at barely 20mph. Watching them struggle with passing places...

Anyway we went for a walk up to the masts away from the crowd.

Ah yes, got them now. A group of 3 hinds blending in to the browning grass, looking at us. A stag facing away, still grazing, not bothering to check us out.

We found him again later in a hollow and snapped him just as he put his head up to see us.
