🌍 Join the EduLite Open Source Team!

Are you a developer, designer, or student who wants to contribute to meaningful open-source? EduLite is a lightweight, student-first education platform designed for areas with poor internet and real-world challenges.

🚀 Why EduLite?

During war and lockdown, I couldn’t access school or use heavy tools like MS Teams. So I asked: “Why isn’t anyone building something truly for students?” That’s how EduLite began.

We’re building a fast, minimal platform with messaging, assignments, scheduling, and a clean UI that works with low connectivity.

👥 Everyone is welcome — beginner or expert!

🔧 Needed: Frontend (React), Backend (Django), UI/UX, Testers, Graphic Designers.

🧠 Learn real teamwork, modern tools, GitHub collaboration, and make an impact.

Our most radical invention during #Covid19 was #livestream courses. Why? Well, we could reach more people, make moderation easier, record without privacy risks, and once we scaled we could have far more staff helping. #ParallelChat and #CoTeaching enables us to be even better than a traditional course.

My colleagues and I have an open-access chapter that was just published about a faculty professional development program we designed and facilitated during covid 2020 that received the 2021 Blackboard Catalyst Award. The chapter is part of a forthcoming book that provides fresh perspectives based on reflections from the field of higher education in the time of Covid. #remoteteaching #onlineteaching #onlined #onlinelearning #facultydevelopment #covid intechopen.com/chapters/85074

General feeling was that when #teaching, recording videos was a bad idea (privacy + not useful to others).

But when the cost and risk of making these videos gets lowered enough, it's actually pretty cool: it's an unprecedented way for learners to review and catch up immediately, which makes our course much more useful and accessible.

In #PythonForSciComp course, I closely tracked stats this time. For our automatic Twitch videos, we got hundreds of views - almost all the same afternoon after the course (course was in mornings).

This tells me that many people were engaging and using those videos to review in preparation for the next day. I think this is an important and often-missed way to support learners.

Stay tuned to @coderefinery for behind the scenes of these videos.

Any experts at server sizing want to help out a bewildered academic? I need to run online labs in the fall for a course where people learn python, racket, js, and octave. It's a bit of a hassle to get all the software running on student machines, so I was thinking about going #BackToTheFuture and just have everyone ssh into a single VM. What kind of VM do I need to support 50 interactive sessions running emacs, python, and racket? #LazyFedi #RemoteTeaching
