Fix It Ep 4: Turning a broken laptop into a Kodi media box

This old but good DeWalt angle grinder starting cutting out while making that gate today.

Noticed it was whenever the cable moved, so it was just a broken wire. Easy fix.

Wire a bit shorter now, new ferrules crimped on and runs fine again. The brushes still have enough life left on them, too.

A well used outdoor workbench. There's a yellow angle grinder with the cover off, the cable removed and a piece cut off. The exposed wires have new bootlace ferrules crimped on. A crimping tool and a plastic sorter full of colourfull ferrules is nearby. There's also some gloves, a ratcheting bit screwdriver and a box of bits whose open lid holds the screws from the angle grinder.

I have a Lenovo T590 here where the mainboard is toast. The chip says MPME8690 1395 C the chip to the right is the same.
I can't find a similar chip nor the schema for this board.
Does anyone know if I can replace it with another chip? Any hints and boosts welcome.

want to replace #CMOS #battery in some old #laptop . researching #repair videos online, found some info for my models:

- HP Pavilion dv3, under wifi panel/slot, very accessible, need to check exactly which 2pin connector variant. doesn't seem to be completely flat yet

- Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M 7400, seems to be under the keyboard, reasonably accessible, not yet had a look in mine to see which connector. battery is flat

- Asus W3N H004H, seems to be attached to the motherboard under the top panel (somewhere under the trackpad ish), but removing that seems to require lots of disassembly (video I saw for W3J model even detached the screen hinges??). battery is flat.

- Acer Aspire 5332, seems to be soldered to motherboard in some videos, battery seems ok

- eMachines 355 netbook, also seems to be soldered to motherboard, battery seems ok

- DIXONSXP Advent, no clue yet

already replaced the one in DELL P4 desktop (standard CR2032), have another desktop to check but I expect it to be trivial. expect my main desktop (new in 2019 iirc) to be good for another few years so won't touch it.

tips welcome, also recommendations for reputable repair shops in south #london uk that could do the tricky ones for me, and reputable online battery shops for the ones I can do

Working my first #Repair Clinic tomorrow at my town's public library. Packing an array of tools. Debating whether the cat will fit in my bag.

There's some nice initiative helping people keeping alive old laptops by installing Linux (and basically helping with the setup).

Too bad there's no one in Poland, but there are quite a few places in Germany where you can get help. Or in Thailand.

Robo had originally the bottom speaker grille and the speaker destroyed. The speaker got replaced but I had forgotten about the grille. Its main function is to prevent kids poking the speakers and transportation damage.

Seeing the bare speaker I quickly whipped out this grille with #freecad and printed it of ASA. Even at just 3mm thick it's surprisingly sturdy.

Just fixed another dumpster find, a Nespresso Pixi. Needed a new valve, so I had to take it apart completely...

... and boy howdy, I have never before seen a device held together by such an insane amount of latches, tabs, notches, and clips. Must have broken at least half of them, my fingers still hurt like hell 😖

It's actually pretty repairable overall, there's a super-detailed shop manual, and you can easily get replacement parts for a few € - once you finally get it open 😕
