New research in Journal of Informetrics asked 2,300+ social scientists from 42 countries: what are your top-3 publications?

:doi: doi.org/10.1016/j.joi.2025.101

Only ~40% of self-identified “top” works also ranked in the author’s top-3 by citations. Even tripling citation counts wouldn’t push nearly a third of them into the bibliometric top. And 17% of “best” works don’t even appear in Scopus - especially in sociology and political science.

📘 New Publication: Promising stories from the GraspOS Pilot studies

In this booklet, we present the implementation pathways and outcomes of the nine GraspOS Pilot studies, aimed at advancing Responsible Research Assessment (RRA) and strengthening Open Science practices across the European Research Area.

In the past three years, the GraspOS Pilots co-designed, validated, and evaluated Open Science-aware indicators, tools, and services for RRA across three assessment contexts:
* Funding agencies and national stakeholders using infrastructure to support funding evaluation processes.
* Universities, including departments and research groups, interested in recruitment and assessment.
* Thematic disciplines that establish domain-specific assessment criteria aligned with disciplinary needs.
The booklet offers concise narratives highlighting the activities, results, and insights from each Pilot.

Although, or perhaps precisely because, the participants at the Research Assessment conference tend to be experienced and committed individuals, it is a very interesting conference. Many challenges are addressed, and at the same time it is motivating to see how small steps can change thinking and behaviour with regard to cultural change in science.

Participation in the breakout session "Leadership in change" at the CeRRA conference. Interesting perspectives and examples of the implementation of research assessment in institutions and the role that leadership play in this process.
The audience was also involved, and the mood was captured with red and green cards.

Red card: Reform takes hold when everyone leads. Leadership needs to emerge from anywhere. Green card: when tradition meets change? Things get complex. Clear top-level direction is needed

✨ Thank you for joining us in Pisa!
The GraspOS Final Conference has officially wrapped up, and we’re grateful to everyone who contributed to two days of inspiring discussions on Opening Research Assessment.

Since the beginning of the project in 2023, GraspOS has worked to support policy reforms and build the foundations for a Responsible Research Assessment system that is aligned with Open Science. Over the two days of the Conference, discussions featured presentations of GraspOS results, invited talks, and expert panels covering critical areas such as open infrastructures for RRA, transparency and inclusivity of assessment processes, and the recognition of contributions to Open Science.

The slides from the presentations will soon be made available in our dedicated Zenodo Community: "Opening Research Assessment: GraspOS Final Conference Open Collection" zenodo.org/communities/graspos
