Once I move my main PC to Linux in October, I'm strongly considering switching one of my current Linux laptops over to Commodore OS Vision.
It's an epic Linux distro inspired by Commodore's rich history and includes preinstalled emulators for Commodore and other systems.
It seems like the perfect distro to use for a retro PC build. It's also headed for a 3.0 release in just over a week!

Recently, i kind of fell into a rabbit hole about older but younger (2010s) laptop computers from the education business. Starting with a Dumpster find of an HP X360 11 G4, continuing over the Lenovo E series ... I found some interesting devices that - I think - have some interesting things in common.
I'd like to tell this story and for that, I kindly need ask for your help:

#RetroPc Today I learned a tiny fact about the Fujitsu Amilo A1640 Notebook from 2004. I sold toms of these pretty low spec devices back in the day. It's a Socket 754 SiS platform, no mini-PCI, no Wifi, no BT, not even a visible switch for RF-enable, only a blind plug where a switch could be.
But they do have an internal USB port (CN30) that is on a little PCB next to the hard drive. I never got it to work. The service manual says it is attached to USB data line set 3 of the chip set though and provided with 1A of current through a poly fuse.
It turns out CN36, the RF-enable switch that is on the board but not visible from the outside, kills this port. It's very likely intended for the USB Bluetooth adapter on the A1650 and unused here. The switch is set to RF-disable at the factory. If you remove the bottom chassis you can actuate it and use the internal USB port... For WiFi or something else you like.
This is great. Antix can be a bit daunting at first, but it has so many great tools for older hardware. #linux, #retropc

Endlich fand ich die Zeit HaikuOS auf einem Dell Latitude E5530 Baujahr ca. 2013 zu installieren. Aktuelle Software gibt es im HaikuDepot mehr als genug. Mal schauen, wie sich das System so im Tagesbetrieb bewährt. Die Bedienung fühlte sich jedenfalls sehr schnell vertraut an.
Mal etwas interessantes was man alles in einem Spendenkarton so findet... Eine Funk-Kugelmaus....
