A fiery pink cloud bank covers most of the sky, and is reflected in the Brisbane river at dawn. The opposite bank of the river is dark, silhouetted against the coming sun, while in the middle of the river some dark silhouetted rowers are accompanied by a coach in a "tinny".

Overhead, a uniform bank of rough-textured cloud is lit blazing red-pink by the not-risen sun, the undulations in the cloud base thrown into strong relief by the intense pink light. Looking across the Brisbane river at dawn, a coppery sky reflecting darker in the lightly rippled surface. Two six-person canoes are paddling up-river, silhouetted against the bright water, bodies, arms and paddles all synchronised. The breakwaters have green and white pole markers on their tips, and the stone structures are almost but not quite covered by water. The Cowichan river at the end of a canyon, from a bridge high above. Water levels when this was taken were very low (Sep 2023), for most of the year this river turns into a churning wall of water, as is evident from the high erosion marks on the rocks. This photo fails to capture the scale of the scene, but I'll try to convey it anyways. This is the Pitt River near its confluence with the Fraser, on a very rainy day in rainy week in Fall 2023. The Pitt river changes its character several times, from mountainous glacier fed torrent through enormous lake hemmed in by inaccessible forested mountainsides, to slow but unstoppable silt-lade stream replenishing the lowlands. #pnw #riverscape #nature #britishcolumbia #oldphoto #hiking
