„Who knows about the future? Perhaps only the dead…“ Mit diesen, zugegebenermaßen schon ziemlich kalenderspruchartigen, aber dennoch eindrücklichen Sätzen schließt der Film. Die ganzen Anspielungen auf das sogenannte Dritte Reich lassen eigentlich keinen anderen Schluss zu.

Aber meine Güte, das ist alles so lieblos zusammengedengelt. Ein weiteres Mal diese Welt neu zu erfinden, ist schon mutig. Aber wirklich Muse, sie auch zu unterfüttern, ist nicht übrig geblieben. Die einzelnen Elemente werden hier einfach on the go zusammengeklebt, aber kohärent ist das nur selten. Letztlich dient vieles nur alles Mittel zu Zweck, um ein paar Actionsequenzen zu rechtfertigen. Drängende Fragen werden einfach umschifft für das große Krachbumm.

Kein würdiger Abschluss.

From 2014. Was rewatching the old pilot episode of NIGHT GALLERY & I loved this shot of Roddy McDowall's character tossing the painting into the fireplace.
The story itself was really solid & haunting. Like an Edgar Allen Poe tale.
