Where? is the debut album by bassist Ron Carter recorded in 1961 at Van Gelder Studio and released on the New Jazz label.[1] Some reissues of the album appear under Eric Dolphy's name.

The AllMusic review by Jim Todd stated "Carter and Dolphy had played together in Chico Hamilton's group and on Dolphy's important 1960 date Out There. Where? has elements in common with both, but is closer to Hamilton's late-'50s chamber jazz than to the more outward-bound Dolphy date. ... Carter's skill is undeniable, but his playing on Where? is a bit polite and monochromatic. ...Dolphy -- playing bass clarinet, alto sax, and flute -- is a far more interesting prospect, even if he doesn't blow his face off to the extent he did in other settings" - Wikipedia

Alone Together is a live album by Jim Hall and Ron Carter, released in 1973. The album was recorded at the Playboy Club in New York on August 4, 1972.

Alone Together Review by Scott Yanow

Long considered a classic and a revelation to listeners who had taken guitarist Jim Hall for granted, this set of duets with bassist Ron Carter (reissued on CD) has near-telepathic communication between the two musicians and quiet music full of inner tension and fire. Hall and Carter brought in an original apiece and also collaborated on six standards, including "St. Thomas," "Softly As in a Morning Sunrise," "Autumn Leaves," and "Alone Together." Introspective and thought-provoking music.

Miles Davis Quintet: Miles in France 1963 & 1964

More from the "interim" 2nd great quartet, with Coleman keeping Shorter's chair warm in the 1963 appearances, the first concert starts off with Carter plucking out So What's familiar bassline at near double-speed, no doubt anticipating Williams (who was only something like 17 at the time).

Herbie Hancock, of course, is in there too!

Alone Again, Naturally Review by Charity Stafford

Originally released in 1972, Alone Again, Naturally is a fine album by the eclectic and talented soul star Esther Phillips. Helmed by jazz producer Creed Taylor, and recorded with an all-star cast of fusion, soul, and jazz musicians (George Benson, Maceo Parker, Ron Carter, Billy Cobham), this is the early-'70s Creed Taylor sound adapted to pop and soul music, putting Phillips' impassioned vocals in slick, mellow soul-jazz grooves.

Born Day: Ron Carter – The Early Years

For Maestro Carter's birthday this year, I have an April 1964 article written by Don Heckman and published in Down Beat magazine's April 9th, 1964 issue. Heckman was a longtime Down Beat contributor and Los Angeles Times jazz critic.

Mr. Carter is more than generous with his time; he regularly holds Zoom calls that Reddit users would know as AMAs or Ask

Free is an album by saxophonist Benny Golson recorded in late 1962 and originally released on the Argo label.

In the November 7, 1963 issue of Down Beat magazine, critic Harvey Pekar awarded the album 5 stars and said that "Golson's improvising is outstanding; I doubt that he's ever before played as consistently well on record."

The Allmusic review states, "Golson's last album as a leader in which he plays in his Don Byas/Lucky Thompson style (he would soon become a fulltime arranger and; by the time he led his next playing date in 1977, Golson's sound was quite a bit different) finds him in top form."[4] Writing in 2004, critic Bob Blumenthal commented that the album "remains among the highlights of his recording career." - Wikipedia
