The rotunda of St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City. This dome is 300ft above the floor and it's hard to comprehend how massive this space is until you experience it firsthand. My advice to anyone who visits Rome is to definitely check out the Vatican, but make sure you buy tickets in advance. Most people's negative experience with the Vatican comes from having to wait in that awful line to buy tickets (it can be hours!). Also just be aware that everything in the Vatican is 2 or 3 times more expensive than what you can find just outside in Rome.

The rotunda in the previous picture reminded me of this: the crumbling remains of a water tank atop a hill in Valparaiso, Chile. I climbed up there and watched the sunset with a handful of local teenagers, who thought it was funny I wanted a picture of an old water tank. (Also, I suspect they were pretty high).
