US Federal Employee #RTO Day

Amazon's RTO mandate hits disabled workers hardest 🤦♀️
13,000 disabled employees in one Slack channel tells you everything about how "collaborative" this mandate really is. Now Amazon's using AI to parse medical notes - because apparently doctors need algorithms to validate disabilities?
Peak corporate efficiency right there.
Workers who feel left behind by #returntooffice policies
With more companies requiring workers #RTO 5 days/week, "Anxiety is rising for some of the millions of people who identify as #neurodivergent."
Washingtonpost raise the possibility that "strict office mandates have the potential to deter neurodivergent people who may approach problems differently," the article notes — affecting peoiple "whose brains function differently, such as with #ADHD, #autism or #dyslexia."

The stupid #RTO order for #StateOfMinnesota workers went into effect last week, but I already had the week off for HS graduation and other shenanigans. So tomorrow is my first day back in an office. While I've resigned myself to not let it completely ruin my mood all the time, the depths of my anger have not even been tapped.
Maybe, like me, you are dismayed by the unnecessary environmental impact from this. If so, maybe consider signing this?

My work is mandating #returntooffice 3 days a week. I
know a lot of companies/orgs are pushing this. Given the misinformation & politicization of vaccines, I think #antivaxxers will stymy employers' efforts at putting the genie back into the bottle (back to before #covid). Travel bounced back strong & a lot of ppl aren't bothering with keeping up to date with their shots. All it takes is a #measles outbreak/exposure or mutation of the #birdflu for folks to be back #remote.

If you like my product & organizational structure content, I just spent an hour responding to an interesting thread on the concept of Return to Office over on Bluesky.

(My kingdom for an edit button. My fingers have fallen off.)
Highly recommend reading through the original thread first. Charity is someone I deeply respect, and I think they have some interesting views here.

What does work from home look like? it looks like work! Here is the IT help desk most frequent request from RTO mandated employees! #wfh #workfromhome #rto #youtube #layflat #actyourwage #minimuminput
"Culture emerging by the invisible, random force of office osmosis was, is, and will remain, a terrible idea and a failure of leadership."
There is nothing inherently wrong with working in an office and companies have every right (within legal limits) to arrange their activities in the way management thinks is best. Equally, employees have every right to reject working for companies that doesn’t work for them.
My issue with #RTO is that it is just lazy leadership.

After four years of watching remote work in action, researchers uncovered a surprising shift in how people feel about their jobs. The results challenge many common beliefs about working from home.

Another big downside to #RTO
@intrepidhero ...a kind of Turettes RTO. My former colleagues are gnashing their teeth over #RTO. Some were recruited during the #pandemic and still live in places far from agency headquarters. Also there's a cognitive dissonance in ordering 1000s of people - who work for an agency responsible for protecting #airquality - to commute to work. Most will have to drive (a few own EVs), since in the wake of the pandemic, #masstransit is a shadow of its former self.
"One effect of all this, many federal employees tell WIRED, is that they are traveling long distances to spend all of their time in virtual meetings."
Paid work: Manditory return to office (#rto), like Amazon's Andy Jassy did, is the 2025 version of Ludditism. It's stupid, unproductive, and backward thinking.
