#RWNJ in #SouthAustralia are running TV ads aimed at their moronic base, promising to destroy #renewables in SA because they blame #solar and #wind for high costs.
Here are the #renewable #facts
#electricity is complicated;
🔴 Wind and solar power gen dropped from ~$120/MWh to $32/MWh recently (-x4)
🔴 Dirt cheap (wind/solar ~$32/MWh vs coal ~$90/MWh) (Solar x3 cheaper than coal)
🔴 Network costs more, but it's no more than +10-15%. In part, because bigly state few huuumans.
🔴 So why is power so expensive?
1) Retailers locked in prices. They bought contracts when wholesale was expensive (~$120/MWh in 2023). Those contracts are still running. They're not paying today's $32/MWh spot price yet.
2) DMO/VDO pricing lags. Regulated price was set based on older, higher wholesale forecasts. Next reset might capture the savings.
3) Network costs rose faster, While wholesale dropped 40%, network costs rose ~10-15%.
4) Retail costs increased - Smart meters, hardship programs, bad debts all went up post-COVID.
TLDR; Privatised power uses crapitalist (market) principles.
Nothing to do with renewables, everything to do with fat, monocle and tophat wearing parasites.
