Who does a blog anymore? I guess I do? Well, maybe not really. I have not posted anything in the last 10 years. But I'm planning to restart my photography blog to mainly be a "journal" as I start a 2 month sabbatical from work at the end of May. The first 2-3 weeks will be road tripping in the Golf with my wife and camera gear. Feel free to read and follow along.
About a year ago I decided to quit my job after 25 years in the #IT industry to #travel the world for a while. I still think it's been the best decision of my life.

Als het aan Richard Groenendijk (52) lag, had hij op dit moment een sabbatical. Na het overlijden van zijn vriendin Wimie Wilhelm wilde de cabaretier even uit de schijnwerpers stappen. Dat vertelt Richard aan het AD.
Yup, it happened. Over nineteen months and two eclipses later and the career break is officially behind me. I still can’t believe that time came and went so quickly, but I can say honestly that I’m excited to start something new.

Sad to leave #Udupi but grateful for 65 days of immersive and enlightening #sabbatical. I think/hope that I'm leaving a better person. Regardless, my sincere thanks to Sri Krishna and to both Swamijis of Paryaya Sri Puthige Matha for the opportunity. 🙏

This time, the big disruption was us dropping everything to drive two states away to support my mom after a car accident, then getting trapped there for longer by a multi-day weather system in the PNW that blocked our route home.
I still made *some* progress on my writing goals, but I'm weeks behind schedule and the days aren't getting easier. 😬

Fortunate to be in Udupi, occupying the same areas as some of the best scholars in logic, philosophy, language, literature, scriptures, and such. Just today, I sat in on a hour-long lecture by a "shataavadhani" (someone who can do 100 concurrent tasks) and had 30-minute one-one with the Swamiji of one of the original eight Udupi mathas (~monasteries).
This on top of interacting with the two paryaaya Swamijis (those now responsible for the Krishna temple) and getting a closeup viewing of Krishna. Not to mention eating heavenly food.
I mean, I'd feel blessed to experience any one of those for a few minutes of my entire life, but I'm experiencing it all day, every day. It all feels like a dream, one I fear I'll wake from and realize none of this is real. 😰
Needles to say, heavy impostor syndrome. 😳

Nach 17,5 Jahren im Job habe ich jetzt eine sehr lange Auszeit. Kein Druck, keine von außen aufgezwungenen Routinen, es liegt größtenteils an mir, wie ich den Tag gestalte.
Natürlich passieren wieder Dinge, die ich so gar nicht eingeplant hatte. Aber wie mir mir eine Freundin vor langer Zeit mal kolportierte: Leben ist das, was passiert während du planst.
Mal sehen, was das noch mit mir macht.

The final weekend of my sabbatical was spent, like the first one, at a Three Rings event. As a side activity to the volunteer work, everybody was asked to put their name on a paper plate and leave it on a particular table, allowing others to semi-anonymously add compliments, thanks, or kind words about its owner.
