#visiblemending del día y mi segundo experimento de #sashiko.

La cara interna de los pantalones se estropea por dos motivos: el roce constante y que los pantalones estén mal cortados, y la zona tire. Estos estaban arreglados con entretela de la que se pega con la plancha, pero lavar la despega así que les hice una segunda reparación.

Me llevó un poco menos de dos horas (porque deshice y volví a empezar) y unos pantalones nuevos costarían alrededor de treinta euros.

Die Hose hat zwei neue Flicken bekommen und wird langsam aber sicher zum Gesamtkunstwerk.
Wirtschaftlich lohnt sich das natürlich überhaupt nicht und allein, dass ich die Zeit für so etwas habe, ist ein Privileg. Aber es ist ein gutes Gefühl, Schönes zu schaffen.

The crotch area is especially worn. A common problem for Dutch cyclists. I found putting sashiko everywhere distracts from the sashiko there 😅

There's some blue water-soluble marker staining that I used to draw the grid. That'll wash out next time I wash them.

Final update of the #hitomezashi #sashiko pattern I was making for this patch pocket. Now the next thing to do is actually making the patch pocket and attaching it.

Added Math::Polygon to my Perl and I can now generate the Fibonacci snowflakes including their sashiko innards. Here are the order 5 and 6 snowflakes.

$The order 5 Fibonacci snowflake — a fractal outline made from small line segments at right angles to each other. The overall shape is rather like a square standing on one corner with bites of various sizes taken out of it. Inside the outline are snowflakes of lower orders, including the order 1 snowflake (a square) and the order 2 snowflake (a plus sign formed from 5 squares).$

The order 6 snowflake — like its order 5 counterpart, but much more complex. This is also filled with a bunch of lower-order snowflakes, but despite the complexity it can all be stitched with horizontal and vertical lines of running stitch (though practically speaking you would probably want to carry the thread across the back in some cases to avoid having too many “ends”).

A while back, @gwenbeads posted about the book “A Stitch in Line: Mathematics and One-Stitch Sashiko” by Katherine Seaton, and it was so relevant to my interests I had to get hold of it. I’ve been working through it ever since, stitching the samplers and playing with the maths.

I’m currently paused at the end of chapter 8 as I wait for new thread (Retors d’Alsace!!!) to arrive for the next sampler. Here’s a photo of all my samplers so far, done on my hand-dyed muslin scraps; my plan is to patchwork them all together into a hanging once I’ve finished.

Hitomezashi patterns can be randomly generated like this, but that does make actually putting them on fabric harder, I'm thinking!

The back of #hitomezashi sashiko is supposed to look as neat as the front, with the excess thread tucked between two layers of fabric. I don't have two layers of fabric, but you'll only see the front, anyway. So 🤷

A birthday present I got. I wanted a stencil for #sashiko. (I'm bad at drawing grids, especially on fabric.) This was what I got—the local sewing shop apparently recommended it.

You use a hot needle to poke holes into the plastic, then I pinned it to my fabric and used a heat-erase pen to draw dots. I started out going row by row but then thought of a different strategy, as I'm connecting the dots with a ruler, anyway.

Promising results, so far! Though the hot needle poking part was a bit tedious.
