#scipol German coalition agreement: Lots of postings about the inclusion of 'space' in the now modified ministry for "research, technology & space" but space was actually part of the ministry for a long time. It was moved to economics ministry to make it more attractive for Stoiber in 2005. 1/2

Very interesting for the German-speaking #scipol crowd. ⚗️ Did you know that Germany currently spends around 3.1% of its GDP on R&D? 👉 I like this indicator a lot, whenever we talk about future technologies and competitiveness, we should consider the level of investment we are willing to make today

In a time that has been challenging for science, I've found it helpful to focus on doing the best work I can to move science forward. On that note, I'm happy to share that I've started a new position as the first #OpenScience Strategy Program Coordinator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)!

Opening of the #quantum year in Berlin today. Complex scientific topic and yet highly relevant for policy (disruptive potential, geopolitics but also the value of fundamental science for technological advance) It will be interesting to see how the science-policy dialogue develops here. #scipol 🧪

Genetic diversity 🧬 (and how to maintain it) is a very overlooked challenge in my opinion. Haven't listen to the podcast yet, but sounds like it's a good one to familiarize with the concept 🧪🌿 #scipol

As someone who sits on the interface between science policy and making things happen in 🇨🇦 #quantum, a key takeaway from #CSPC2024 is that the general public needs to hear more about longitudinal successes in quantum technologies

Thanks to Women in Neuroscience for inviting me to speak with their network of students yesterday! I had a great time sharing how I've made connections across my professional journey, from combining research areas to making a real-world impact with my science. What a great community and resource for students looking for inclusive #neuroscience training in Texas! Learn more: neurowomen.org/

Women in Neuroscience logo, featuring the letters WIN next to an abstract brain constructed from four amorphous shapes.Talk description. Text: Seeing can help us hear. Whether we're reading a friend's lips in a loud crowd or finding our ringing phone in a messy room, visual cues help us every day as we process noisy environments and decide which sounds are important. In this talk, we'll discuss what neuroscience says about how the brain responds to sounds, and how visual and auditory signals are connected in the brain. We'll focus on the inferior colliculus (IC), an auditory brain area, where growing evidence suggests that visual information may influence responses to sounds. Along the way, we'll also discuss how to get involved in systems neuroscience research and how your neuroscience training could lead you to an impact-focused career in science communication, science policy, and beyond. Ultimately, we'll discover how everything from sensory systems to professional opportunities can be shaped by making connections.
