The materials used to fill it in included the remains of the demolished St Enoch Station and Hotel, now viewed as one of Glasgow's greatest lost buildings.

Old tracks and bollards on the Clyde Walkway in Glasgow. These are the remnants of the former Stobcross Quay. This was part of the massive Queen's Dock complex, which was named after Queen Victoria when she opened in it 1877. The dock was closed in 1969 and filled in in the 1980s to allow the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre to be built in its place.

As it's International Women's Day, I thought I'd post these lines from a poem called Wild Geese by the American poet Mary Oliver. I came across them today on a sculpture just outside the Scottish Exhibition Centre in Glasgow, which I'd never noticed before.

The final lines of a poem called Wild Geese by Mary Oliver made of metal and placed on a stone stand. The lines read: The world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting, over and over, announcing your place in the family of things.

It closed in 1969 and was subsequently filled in using the remains of demolished Glasgow buildings, including the much-missed Saint Enoch Station and Hotel. In the 1980s, it became home to the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, with these further buildings being added later.

The Armadillo and the Hydro Arena reflected in the still waters of the Clyde in Glasgow. Part of the Scottish Events Campus, they are built in the former Queen's Dock on the north bank of the Clyde. Originally called the Stobcross Dock, it was built in the 1870s.

A late afternoon view across the Clyde to Finnieston and the Scottish Events Campus.

It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's a view which I never tire of as you can see so many of the different layers of the city all at once.

Today on the riverside in Glasgow looking towards Finnieston. I've always loved the mix of new and old buildings you can see from this perspective.
