Fresh Fruits and Fortune

I went out one morning to photograph Palafrugell, walking around the town, exploring the streets. It’s a small town with narrow road and tall buildings, with a few public squares dotted around. Near one is a vegetable market where I spotted a man buying a lottery card.

The ONCE lottery, seen in the photo, is unique in Spain for being operated by the Organización Nacional de Ciegos Españoles, an organisation founded in 1938 to support the blind and visually impaired. Many of the lottery vendors, like the one pictured, are themselves visually impaired, making each ticket sale a contribution to social inclusion and support for people with disabilities.

A street scene in Palafrugell, Spain, showing a man in shorts and a white t-shirt purchasing lottery tickets from a blue ONCE lottery kiosk adorned with posters and scratch cards, next to an open-air market stall selling fresh produce under white umbrellas. The kiosk features the text "BEN JUGAT" and is topped with a white canopy, while the background includes a blue mural and market shoppers.

GREAT NEWS! Leicester Night Soil 2023 is tonight!

Many of you will know that our band name is (allegedly) derived from the infamous "9 o'clock Horses" that used to come into the city every evening to take away the human waste. The annual celebration of the event was cancelled due to the COVID lockdowns, but tonight it is BACK!

Leicester Mayor Sir @petersoulsby2018 and all the staff at the Leicester City Council offices have, since Christmas, been accumulating all their human excremental production in a small skip in the yard out back and this afternoon it will be moved around to Charles Street where a crowd will gather with much amusement and joy at 9pm.

At 9pm three carts driven by the captains of each of Leicester's elite professional sporting teams Hanro Liebenberg (@leicestertigers) Lewis Hill (@leicscricket) and Jonny Evans (@leicestercfc) will collect the Night Soil and each one will go and spread the life giving poopage over the pitch at their venue so that it shall spring verdant to life.

Not many people realise that it was the stench of the King Power Stadium that won the Premier League for us, back in that year when we won it.

They used to take the carts to Sh1t Field in Enderby but @bancosantander built their offices there and didn't like it.

If anyone has any children they want kidnapping they need to get them to Charles Street for 9.15 at the latest, with a lunchbox and can of lager for the driver.

@petebrock and @andrew.kent.33633 will be there busking for £5 notes and Scratch Cards.
