White-tailed Sea Eagles came to visit me this morning. Five of them. Mostly juveniles, enjoying having friends about before becoming full adults.

Life gets so serious as an adult.

Here's the final version. Cropped and punched in to show a little detail.

I increasingly get people commenting on my youtube videos with things like "nobody wants to edit photos anymore, just get it right in camera" or something to that effect. I don't believe in shooting JPG to begin with, and fundamentally that's on the basis that RAW files have more creative potential.

This whole idea of being militant against editing photos just seems weird to me. If you don't wanna dig deep into photography then you don't have to, but why leave aggressive comments for people who are exercising a little skill and artistic pursuit?

Sometimes the light is a but rubbish but we keep taking photos anyway, and sometimes those RAW files totally surprise me with how much you can extract from its murky depths. Here's a before and after of this White-tailed Sea Eagle, taken from a moving boat at ISO 3200 and the 500mm end of a telephoto zoom.

Hoping to see them again on a day when the sun is with us.

While waiting on the jetty this morning we got a visit from a pair of White-tailed Sea Eagles. We saw them a few times while out on the fjord, but the light was not nearly as inspiring as this moment.

Had an exciting experience at polder today! After chasing away a -tailed , this red kite came at me, circling above me and possibly contemplating an attack. After a few good shots, I chose to leave its threatening aura.

This is a close-up black and white wildlife photo in landscape format of a Sea Eagle in flight. Gjesværstappan, Norway (2017). Very slightly to the left of centre is our White-Tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus Albicilla), often called a Sea Eagle. The bird is inflight, flying towards and above the camera and to the camera's right. The view of the Eagle is oblique with the front, right and undersides in view. The bird has a large, bright and slightly hooked beak, a large head that's looking straight ahead. The large and long wings are outspread. The feet are faired into the tail feathers. The tones are generally dark grey to black. The body feathers forward of the wings are speckled black and white, while the wing's leading edges are white as of course, are the tail feathers. The rest of the image is filled with the clear and cloudless sky, rendered a medium grey. The location: Off the coast of Storstappen Island, 71º North of the equator, high in Norway's arctic north.

Ein Seeadler fliegt knapp über der Wasseroberfläche eines grünen Sees. Er hat die Flügel weit ausgebreitet, die Federn sind detailliert sichtbar. In seinen Krallen hält er einen Aal, den er gerade aus dem Wasser gezogen hat und dabei eine Wasserfontäne erzeugt.

Fliegende Türen werden die Seeadler liebevoll genannt. Das hat seinen Grund. Der Seeadler ist der grösste und kräftigste Adler Europas und beeindruckt mit den brettartigen, fast rechteckigen Schwingen und einer Spannweite von bis zu 2,5 Metern.

White-tailed eagles; adult and juvenile over the polder. Their approach was alerted by many calls of birds fleeing. First they did some acrobatics before circling and moving farther south on their hunt.

This is an artistic black and white wildlife photo of a large White-Tailed Eagle in flight. To the left of centre and in flight from left to right is a White-Tailed Eagle, often called a Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus Albicilla), a large bird of prey with a wing span of up to two and a half metres (eight feet). The bird is viewed in profile and is flying a metre or two from a shear and rocky cliff face with a little sparse vegetation. Our bird has a large and slightly hooked beak, is looking straight ahead and it's broad wings are on a down stroke. The feathers are generally rendered dark grey to black with the feathers on the lower body being a mottled dark and white. The tail feathers are fanned out and living up to their name: are of course white. Beyond the Sea Eagle and the rocky cliff is graduated to a brilliant white and thus focusing the viewer on the bird. The location: Storstappen, at 71ºN, is high up in Norway's Arctic north.

This is a colour photo of a large White-Tailed Eagle in flight. In the foreground covering most of the lower half of the image is a large single, pale and slightly rough rock of perhaps three metres in length and lit by the noon day sun. About a metre above the rock is a White-Tailed Eagle, often called a Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus Albicilla), a large bird of prey with a wing span of up to two and a half metres (eight feet). Our bird is above and slight to the right of centre, is viewed in profile, and flying from right to left. The long and broad wings are outstretched and slightly raised suggesting the wings are on a down stroke. The bird has a large, blunt, but hooked beak, a large forward facing head with dark eyes. Most of the colouring is medium brown and white, including the wedge shaped tail that despite the name is both brown and white. In the background filling the remains of the image is a steeply rising grass covered slope. The location: Storstappen, at 71ºN, is high up in Norway's Arctic north.
