I played SETI at my FLGS on Thursday night and loved it so much I arranged another play today. Then I ended up buying a copy for myself.

I love how the configuration of the solar system affects your options: the inner planets always rotate, the middle planets rotate 2/3rd of the time, and the outer planets rotate 1/3rd of the time. Really clever. I kept trying to pull off some synergistic orbital mechanics and failing.

I like thinking about our search for alien intelligence and I appreciate SETI but there are so many assumptions built into searching for radio signals that a null result is basically meaningless. At least that's how I see it.

On this week's , we looked back at the legacy of the SETI@home project. While no aliens have been found in the data (yet), finding nothing helps the search progress. Project founder Eric Korpela says it was worth it. Watch the full interview: youtube.com/live/eFOm9rD5VWc

I remember when this first started. Loved the Screensaver. Sad its no longer active but the legacy lives on.

SETI@home: Data Analysis and Findings

I contributed millions of work units to this project over the years. Back when I taught HS #physics, the students and I had every PC in our lab (~7) running SETI@Home 24/7/365.

It is exciting to read the latest analysis!

At first glance the Golden Record looks like a shiny vinyl, but it’s a gold-plated copper disc filled with sounds, images and symbolic markings—centuries of human knowledge packaged as a time capsule to tell our story.

Earlier Pioneer probes carried metal plaques in 1972–73.

Congratulations to the SETI@Home project for successfully completing their analysis.

27 years ago I helped build a decentralized computing platform that was a more general form of what they were doing, but they were always the OG.

Here’s a nice discussion of the results. (Spoiler: nothing world-shaking, but interesting next steps)

For 21 years, SETI@home volunteers donated computing power to the search for technosignatures.

That archive is still yielding insights.

In this SETI Live, Beth Johnson talks with @SETIEric (UC Berkeley) about a new analysis that highlights ~100 signals for further scrutiny—and how scientists distinguish cosmic signals from interference.

Nostalgia tahun 2000an gabung SETI@home. Saking bangganya sampai contribution certificate nya di-print, dibingkai, dan dipajang di tembok.

Sekarang jadinya pengen coba iseng-iseng ikutan boinc.

👽 SETI@home is in hiberation.

「 We are no longer distributing tasks. The SETI@home message boards will continue to operate, and we'll continue working on the back-end data analysis. Maybe we'll even find ET!

Thanks to everyone for your support over the years. We encourage you to keep crunching for science 」
