What colour is fashionable skin? It's Nude.

Until very recently, the fashion industry's stance was that only a peach-pink (White) skin tone could be called nude. For example, in 2010, the British editor of Elle said nude is "a defined colour. It’s white nude, not black nude". Nude is also the name of Pantone colour 12-0911.

But in 2013, major fashion house Christian Louboutin was first to launch a shoe range in 5 skin tones, from dark to light. Skin-toned shoes, particularly if high-heeled, make the wearer's leg look longer since the leg and foot blend into the shoe. Louboutin's popular Nudes Collection later expanded to 7 tones with various heels. The shoe range continues to pose questions about racialism and to challenge the fashion industry to redefine "nude" so it includes people of all ethnicities.

Five pairs of Christian Louboutin, napa leather, Fifi pumps, with a 10-centimeter (3.9-inch) heel. The Victoria and Albert Museum's collection has the five initial shades and tints, from (left to right) Blush no. 5 to Blush no. 1.

Each pair came in a shoebox with a red dust bag and heel dust bag.

The shoes were on display in the early 2020s in the 20th Century gallery of V&A's South Kensington site, but are currently not available to view. To see them online use the link in the post.

AliExpress listing for a futuristic shoe/spaceship crossover costing a mere €1105.29. It claims "One Size" and that 13 have been sold, which seems unlikely. The shoe is a computer generated image of a plastic trainer with display and some sort of spring-loaded pads under the sole, plus weird attachments on the heel.

Like a time capsule: a Roman tile marked with #finger lines, hobnail #shoe prints, dog's paw prints, and a #stamp of the LEG(io) XIIII G(emina). Tiles with imprints are very common, since tiles were laid out to dry in the open air ahead of firing, where animals and people could step on them - though footprints might have been evidence to check whether the clay was set enough.
The finger lines might have been batch marks.

A tile with well-preserved surface impressions: three distinct outline of shoes with hobnail patterns in the center, a animal paw prints nearby, and a rectangular maker's stamp with worn lettering and an imprint of a foot. And finger lines.
The tile surface shows additional small impressions and chips.

Something I noticed today.

After I had typed the word "shoe" a dozen or so times, it started to look really weird.

I found myself wondering if I had misspelled it, or, indeed, even if it was a word at all. After a little while, I found myself wondering if I was even using English, or any human language.

I began to wonder if a 'shoe' was something I had made up. Socks, however, remained perfectly reasonable.

Eventually I was questioning my own nature, and if I was real.

I am still not sure.
