This week's Story Hour double debut did not disappoint! Frank Oreto read us a poignant tale and a wickedly funny one, and Ayida Shonibar's retold Bengali folktale was both frightening and sweet. You can still watch! #Bookstodon #StoryHour2020 #ShortStories #ShortFiction #AuthorReading #Horror #HorrorFiction #AyidaShonibar #FrankOreto @ayidashonibar youtube.com/watch?v=iS6LiwI7e1

I don't know what this space will become.
Maybe just fragments. Maybe just feelings.
Maybe little truths that look like fiction.

But if you're here — and something I write feels familiar —
then maybe this space was always meant for both of us. 👋

Head-and-shoulders color photo of writer Frank Oreto, a man with a trimmed, graying beard and mustache. He wears a dark gray fleece vest over a gray tee, accessorized with glasses on a chain and a small-brimmed straw hat accentuated with a black band and a magenta orchid. He sits in what looks to be a restaurant booth and wields chopsticks with an eager expression.Head-and-shoulders color photo of writer Ayida Shonibar, a woman with long black hair pulled back from her face and spilling over one shoulder. They wear a sleeveless black sweater; two small gold hoop earrings adorn her visible earlobe. She stands on what appears to be a park walkway, tree-filled wilderness behind her. With their face in three-quarters view, she looks directly into the camera with large brown eyes and a Mona Lisa smile.

At this point in time I found a strange calm in the knowledge that I would get old selling cardboard solar hats during the environmental collapse.
Thanks to the ancient wisdom of my youtube elders I would prosper.

@JumblePublishing

The monkey sat on the small white table, as the crowd stared at the lady animal trainer performed tricks with the animals on the big table. The table had dreamed of being in show business. Alas, it was fated to only be a support role in a Circus Sideshow - should have gone with Spiritualist's table rapping act. It was a higher calling.

@elaurian
more short story recommendations:

Kate Atkinson's "Normal Rules Don't Apply" - a collection of elegant, interconnected short stories.

I really enjoyed Steve Barthelme's Hush, Hush, too.

if you don't mind / actually enjoy some weirdness - I recently read Dogwalker, by Arthur Bradford, and it was an interesting read. I'll give a CW for this collection: violence, dated language, death, stuff with animals.
