15 Children and Counting: The Story of the Melkonyan Family

Fifteen children were born and raised under one roof in the Melkonyan family. The father of the family, Martik Melkonyan, was the only and adopted child in his household. He confesses that he always dreamed of having a big family, but he could not imagine that it would be this big. Today, the Melkonyans also have two daughter-in-laws, one son-in-law, and one granddaughter. Eternal: A place for the mothers of fallen soldiers

Karine Muradyan is Vahe’s mother. Eighteen year old Vahe died while fighting the 2020 Karabakh War. To be able to share the grief, pain and sadness of this loss with other mothers who experienced such loss, Karine created “Haverj” (Eternal) - an organization through which mothers find comfort with one another. They cry together, remember together, get angry together and, at times, laugh together. There are roughly one hundred mothers in the organization and “unfortunately the number is increasing through time,” says Karine.

Kobayr Monastery From the Skies

The Kobayr Monastery is in the region of Lori, and has been the center of a dispute about when it was constructed, some say it was built in the 12th century. Currently, it is in a dilapidated condition but three of the churches, the belltower, crosstones and refectory have been partially preserved.

The etymology of the name Kobayr is debated also. Some speculate it comes from the word "Ayrivank" meaning "man, cave.”

There’s been historical disputes between Armenians and Georgians about the ownership of the monastic complex too.
